Jer 22:16 What knowing God is all about

From today's devotional reading:

He upheld the cause of the poor and the weak,
so everything went well.
Isn’t that what knowing me
is all about?” says Adonai
.
(REV)

This verse powerfully convicts me. For most of my life my cause was to compete against the poor and weak, to show that I am competent and strong. The psychology to to excel, move past such poor souls, to achieve.

Now, it is painfully obvious from reading Scripture that our purpose is to help those who are weak. My original signature was "to whom much is given, much is expected."

I am often ashamed to think of who I was before. Contempt for the poor and weak, feeling myself superior. Then I became poor and weak. But God's spirit rescued me. See thread on modern prophets.

Notice how this verse does not even saying anything about evangelizing, pointing people to Christ or correct people's doctrine? Profound in its simplicity. (I'm sure others will complicate the hell out of it or ignore it).
