The last time I heard "tongues" it went something like this. A guy stood up at a microphone, blabbed what sounded like the same blab blab over and over again. Then the Churches Apostle asked if anyone had a word or vision. Someone stood up and gave a vision. Then someone tried to interpret the vision. I think there was some bible mixed in there. Then the person who spoke in "tongues" said he had some more "blab blab" said some more "blab blab" And then if I remember right, they someone said something about Isaiah, and a few other people was like "Yeah I got that too" then someone said, I think it must have something to do with the mission's trip to Zimbabwe.
It sounded like it was the guy who was speaking in "Tongues" was already scheduled to go on that mission's trip. By the end of it all, there didn't seem to be anything helpful for anything. Except maybe that God wasn't angry with the sheep. If you think this sounds wild, it was even more wild then I'm describing, cause the person who gave the vision started out by saying, "due to the intensity of the tongue, it was like a whirl wind ripping through the sheep pen, and then there is a stream of water. But the water is crystal clear. God's not angry with the sheep."
I was listening to this, and I was like what in the world is the point in all of this? If God's got an important message for the missionary going to Zimbabwe, why did He need to jump through so many hoops to get it said. But even after everything got "interpreted" it sounded confusing. I guess these people could argue that the book of Daniel is confusing. Or maybe they would argue that Revelation is confusing.
At the end of Revelation, we get a warning not to add anymore to scripture. In my opinion, what these people are doing is adding to scripture. They are "receiving" additional confusing Revelation from the Lord for what they "think" has to do with a trip to Zimbabwe.
I'm under the impression that when God gives people spiritual gifts, they are used to edify the Church. I don't think what I described edified the Church at all. That particular Church believes that they can train to hear God. No where in scripture does it teach that we are to train to hear God. I can't even think of one example of a prophet, or anyone for that matter, in scripture that had to train themselves to hear God's voice.
Based on what I found in my research. Most Pentecostal Churches do not follow the scriptures exactly like they are supposed too for the use of tongues. The prophets and apostles are false as well.
The prophets, the get over 80% of their prophesies wrong, and yet they are still considered to be prophets. Yet under old testament Bible standards, if they got just one wrong they should be killed. Yet these people believe that if they keep practicing then they will get more and more correct as we get closer to the return of Jesus. They give no scripture to back this idea up. The Apostle's are also false for the same reason. They also are known to give prophesies that don't come 100% true.
There is enough major issues in the Pentecostal and Charismatic Churches that I don't understand why the rest of Christianity doesn't just disown them.
I also take issues with the Baptist Churches too. But those issues are of a different nature and as far I know, Baptist Churches don't even try to speak in tongues.
I don't have a problem with the supernatural works of God. But I need to know, 100 percent, that is of God. Cause in our day, people have been caught faking it.
Matthew 7:21-23
21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’
