I Never Knew You

Notice what Jesus said to the five foolish virgins in Matthew 25:1: "I never knew you." He did not say that they never verbally confessed Jesus as Lord. Also He did not say that they never got baptized - because neither of these were required by Him to be saved. The truth is that they could have done BOTH of these things and still not know Him - many will say Lord, Lord, and many will get baptized without knowing Him. They're just going through the motions (works), without any change of heart. (faith)
In Matthew 25:31 Jesus speaks of the works that please Him AFTER one is saved - i.e. they know Him, they have a repentant heart and a faith in His blood shed for their sins:

These are the works of "the sheep", that is, the saved, those who KNOW Jesus:
Feeding the hungry
Giving drink to the thirsty
Inviting strangers in
Clothing the naked
Visiting the sick
Visiting the prisoners

Notice that even though Jesus wants us to confess Him as our Lord and He wants us to be baptized after salvation, yet He doesn't mention the LACK of doing EITHER of these, as grounds to send us to eternal punishment. The Church of Christ and Doug, on the other hand, are quick to assign eternal punishment to those who do not do BOTH of these things in order to even get saved.
They do not have the Bible on their side.

Mark 16:16 "He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned." Apparently Jesus forgot about the "requirement" - given to us by the Church of Christ and Doug and others on this forum - to confess Him as Lord to be saved.

Notice in the verse that it is disbelief that brings condemnation, not the absence of baptism.

Romans 10:9-10 "that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

Here, apparently, Paul forgot about the "requirement" - given to us by the Church of Christ and Doug and others on this forum - to be baptized to be saved.

Notice the context of this passage in verse 5 "For Moses writes that the man who PRACTICES the righteousness which is based on law shall live by that righteousness."

Verse 6 BUT THE RIGHTEOUSNESS BASED ON FAITH SPEAKS AS FOLLOWS: ..."

BOTH of the men in verses 5 and 6 are ALREADY BELIEVERS, they BOTH KNOW GOD.

So we see that confessing Jesus as Lord, and believing in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, (EXACTLY AS WE SEE IN JAMES 2) are SIGNS OF A TRUE BELIEVER, just as getting baptized (if one truly believes) is a SIGN of someone who HAS BELIEVED.

I confess Jesus as my Lord. I believe in my heart that God raised Him from the dead. Why? Because I BELIEVE IN AND KNOW JESUS. BEFORE I BELIEVED, I DID NOT CONFESS JESUS AS LORD AND I DID NOT BELIEVE (OR UNDERSTAND) THAT GOD RAISED HIM FROM THE DEAD.

In Romans 10:11-13, Paul gives us the TRUE REQUIREMENT FOR SALVATION - Believing in HIm and calling on the name of the Lord - this does not have to be verbal - just as believing is not verbal. Calling on the name of the Lord occurs in our heart.

Remember the thief on the cross. It is obvious that he had a change of heart toward Jesus BEFORE he called out "Jesus, remember me when you come into Your kingdom." Luke 23:42 So even the sincere calling on the name of the Lord occurs in the heart BEFORE it is spoken.

How many times did Jesus tell someone who He had healed, "your faith has saved you". Why didn't He say, your faith has healed you? It appears that Jesus knew that more than a physical healing had taken place. Salvation in their hearts had also occurred. Remember when he told several people, "your sins are forgiven"? He knew they had been saved.

But He never said, your sins are forgiven, IF you get baptized - or your faith has saved you, IF you confess me as Lord. Remember that new believers WERE BAPTIZED by Jesus' disciples, when salvation had occurred. John 4:1

Hello @dwight92070,

Those that you have cited (@Doug and @The Church of God (?)) in your entrees have not come forward to challenge your statements, have they?

The main emphasis of the parable of the ten virgins is the need for watchfulness, and readiness in the light of the return of the Lord Jesus Christ, and entrance into the Kingdom of the heavens. It is not a matter of salvation or the lack of it. Both the foolish and wise virgins were looking for the coming of the Bridegroom. The foolish were guilty only of disobedience in regard to watchfulness and readiness. As with the wise and foolish builders of 1Cor.3, doubt is not cast upon their foundation, only upon what they had built upon it. These virgins had foolishly disobeyed in not heeding the warnings given, so failed to receive the reward of entry into the marriage feast.

'If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon,
he shall receive a reward.
If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss:
but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.'

(1Co 3:14-15)

'For yet a little while, and He that shall come will come, and will not tarry.
Now the just shall live by faith:
but if any man draw back,
My soul shall have no pleasure in him.
But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition;
(i.e., waste)
but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.'
(Heb 10:37-39)
------------------------

'But the rest of the dead lived not again
until the thousand years were finished.
This is the first resurrection.'

(Rev.20:5 )

'Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection:
on such the second death hath no power,
but they shall be priests of God and of Christ,
and shall reign with him a thousand years.'

(Rev.20:6 )

* Reward and loss, not life or death.

'A new commandment I give unto you,
That ye love one another; as I have loved you,
that ye also love one another.
By this shall all men know that ye are My disciples,
if ye have love one to another.'

(Joh 13:34-35)

Hello @Eve,

I cannot enter into the words you have used, but I agree that bullying only turns those who observe it, away from the truth that those indulging in it are supposedly seeking to defend. When praise and thanksgiving, mutual edification and loving responses, would draw those who witness it, to Christ, Whom we profess to be our Saviour and Lord.

Whose Name be praised.

'Then (i.e., at that time)
shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins,
which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.'

(Mat 25:1)

Hello again @dwight 92070,

As the verse quoted above shows this is referring to a specific time, 'Then', or, 'at that time'. So this parable does not have application to the church throughout time. The Lord is still answering the question asked of the disciples in Matt 24:3,
'And as He sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto Him privately, saying, 'Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of Thy coming, and of the end of the world?'

I like this view.

We believe a better interpretation is that the parable of the ten virgins pictures Christ’s second coming at the end of the tribulation. Our view is that all the parables in this series relate to Israel, not the church. Israel during the end times is the focus of Matthew 24, and Matthew 25 continues that theme. So, in our view, the bridegroom in the parable is Jesus Christ, and the waiting bridesmaids are Israel. Will Israel be ready to receive the Lord as her Messiah? Jesus’ answer in the parable is that some will be ready to enter the kingdom, and some will not.

'A new commandment I give unto you,
That ye love one another; as I have loved you,
that ye also love one another.
By this shall all men know that ye are My disciples,
if ye have love one to another.'

Hello @Eve,

Re. the first sentence of my reply. It was understandable that you did not know what I meant by my opening remark, 'I cannot enter into the words you have used'. I apologise for being so obscure: I simply could not address your comments.
