John 17:1–9 (ESV) — 1 When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you, 2 since you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him. 3 And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. 4 I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do. 5 And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed. 6 “I have manifested your name to the people whom you gave me out of the world. Yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. 7 Now they know that everything that you have given me is from you. 8 For I have given them the words that you gave me, and they have received them and have come to know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me. 9 I am praying for them. I am not praying for the world but for those whom you have given me, for they are yours.

Now its the same word in 1 Cor 1 when writing to the Corinthians
27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
So Eph 1:4 shows how the Corinthian chosen were put in Christ by the Father Election before the foundation,

Where is "put" found in 1 Cor 1:30?

The word put doesnt have to be there for it to be true,

John Gill on 1 Cor 1:30

But of him are ye in Christ Jesus,.... These words, as they direct to the proper object of glorying, Christ, so they show the high honour the called ones are brought to in and through Christ, and are opposed to their outward meanness, folly, weakness, poverty, and contempt. They are first of God the Father, of his own rich free grace and goodness, without any regard to any motive, merit, or desert of theirs, put into Christ by electing grace, in whom they are preserved and blessed; and which is their original secret being in him; and is made manifest by regenerating grace, by their being made new creatures; which also is not owing to their blood, or to the will of the flesh, or to the will of man, but to God and his free favour in Christ: and in consequence of their being in Christ, as their head and representative, he becomes all to them, which is here expressed,

As in most things, there are two ways to intperpret HIS determining al things...

1. Causative
GOD looks at every option and chooses which is the option HE wants to happen and then determines that this will happen.

2. Predictive
GOD predicts which choice HIS creation can make which will end in their heavenly marriage or hell (redemption or condemnation) and then responds to their choice by determining things so their choice will be fulfilled and brought to fruition. WE cause, choose, our fate then predestination predicts where we will end based on our choice and determinism ensures the fulfillment of our choice.
