In Calvinism, Jesus is the central figure through whom God's will is enacted, but His role is understood within the framework of the Five Points of Calvinism, particularly the concept of limited atonement, meaning his sacrificial death was intended to save only the elect. While Jesus is seen as the savior, He is also understood to have accomplished redemption for the elect through His death and to empower those chosen by God for salvation.
The Arminian view of Jesus emphasizes that he died for all people, making salvation possible for everyone who chooses to believe. This is often called "unlimited atonement," contrasting with the Calvinist view of "limited atonement" which holds that Christ only died for the elect. Arminians believe that Jesus’s sacrifice made redemption and forgiveness of sins available to all, but it is only applied to those who accept it through faith.
