Walking in The Light / 1 John

During the earthly ministry Jesus, He walked through the crowds of desperate people, into the sinner’s house, and right up to the Samaritan woman. He touched the sick, the broken and the shunned.

To the writer of 1 John, Jesus’ actions on earth matter. If we want to love, we must “walk just as Jesus walked.”

6 Whoever says he abides in Him ought [as a personal debt] to walk and conduct himself in the same way in which He walked and conducted Himself.
1 John 2:6.

But we struggle to make the connection between the people Jesus served and the people we are called to serve. The world is so enticingly full of “the desire of the flesh and the desire of the eyes and the arrogance of material possessions” that we grow blind to the people in the shadows.

16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh [craving for sensual gratification] and the lust of the eyes [greedy longings of the mind] and the pride of life [assurance in one’s own resources or in the stability of earthly things]—these do not come from the Father but are from the world [itself].
1 John 2:16

Jesus covers our lack of love and brings us back into the light. We need to “walk in the light as [Jesus] is in the light. The Holy Spirit shows us hod we can accomplish this goal. ”

By imitating Jesus’ actions on earth, we can bring light to the outcasts in our communities and our world.

7 But if we [really] are living and walking in the Light, as He [Himself] is in the Light, we have [true, unbroken] fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses (removes) us from all sin and guilt [keeps us cleansed from sin in all its forms and manifestations].
1 John 1:7
