The Elect

Election is in Christ

Being in Christ happens in time

Romans 16:7–8 (ESV) — 7 Greet Andronicus and Junia, my kinsmen and my fellow prisoners. They are well known to the apostles, and they were in Christ before me. 8 Greet Ampliatus, my beloved in the Lord.

when one believes

Ephesians 1:13 (ESV) — 13 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit,
Repeating yourself doesn't move the conversation forward.

There is no contradiction between God's sovereignty and mankind's free will.
I beg to differ.

John 6:65 And He said, “Therefore I have said to you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted to him by My Father.”
John 6:65 He went on to say, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled them.”

Father God has exclusive control over who comes to Jesus.
I agree with @Johann here —at least in whatever 'free will' actually IS, and not in whatever constructions we come up with to describe real choice.

I'm still working on him to find out what he really means by "free will". Johann, to you mean actually uncaused choice?

I beg to differ.

John 6:65 And He said, “Therefore I have said to you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted to him by My Father.”
John 6:65 He went on to say, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled them.”

context its the disciples who were drawn and came and the pharisees who were not drawn and could not come. its not about anyone else in the passage.

hope this helps !!!

The them are believers plural- those in Christ

that is who are being addressed

Ephesians 1:1 (ESV) — 1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, To the saints who are in Ephesus, and are faithful in Christ Jesus:

He chose believers to be holy and blameless

The text says nothing about some unconditionally preselected men to become believers.
The context does. And emphasizes the sovereignty of God (not the actions of men as causal) in choosing some for those particular purposes and virtues (actions) that come through regeneration.

also if you are going to claim the "elect " are those disciples who were drawn by the Father and come and follow Him and are saved then you have another giant pickle.'

So much foe the elect being drawn/kept.

John 6:66
From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him.

Jesus drives it home here with the elect/chosen

John 6:70
Then Jesus replied, “Have I not chosen you, the Twelve? Yet one of you is a devil!”

so much for being chose/elect and saved.

hope this helps !!!

context is King once again. @TomL :)

Um you have not shown that.

it is believers selected to be holy and blameless and,

not unconditionally select men to be believers.

Oh, I believe we have free will (with limitations by inclination), but when it comes to salvation, it's all God.

None of those "come to me" verses prove that we have the ability in ourselves to come to Jesus. Even a command does not prove that we have the ability to obey it of our own free will. Indeed, Deuteronomy tells a story about how God says, "I set before you a choice of blessing or a curse". And then the story continues saying, "you're going to disobey and I will curse you". Fortunately, the ultimate outcome is that God will write his laws on our hearts. Once again, it's all up to God, not our free will.

I've seen on here someone who says Jesus is the elect, not believers. 1 Thessalonians says otherwise:

NKJV
2 We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers, 3 remembering without ceasing your work of faith, labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the sight of our God and Father, 4 knowing, beloved brethren, your election by God.

NIV
4 For we know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that he has chosen you
It is too bad the writers of the NIV used the word, "chosen." It disrupts the meaning of "many are called, few are chosen."
