Quenching the Fiery Darts!

The last few days I've had rolling over in my mind the phrase, "Quench the fiery darts" You'll find the phrase in Eph 6: 16

"Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked."

Many times we focus on the idea of darts being shot us at from the devil but he never said they were just darts but fiery ones and for the reason he even added on that we're to quench them says something interesting. What he brings our way is meant to INFLAME US! So how does one know they're being inflamed? I'd say by how much we talk or mediate in a worrisome way on what's occurred. If we spend hours upon hours not actually finding out and applying what God's word says about whatever into our lives to bring victory and freedom., I'd say we've been inflamed! The devil has a foothold. We shouldn't let him have it.

First sign of a dart and I've mentioned they're on fire jump on it immediately with the word of God! Don't wait. Don't delay! A little fire, just a small one started in a building can envelop a whole structure in just a short time. If I was like a military's sergeant training soldiers and to some who would allow me to be such I would be screaming at the young soldiers.... "Quench it, quench it, quench it!! Move, move, move, move, move and do it now " A military trainer isn't acting this way with soldiers to be mean. He's trying to save their lives and there's just somethings one has to take seriously. Jesus did this. He'd state and I'm sure rather boldly to the devil, "It is written, it is written, it is written! (see Matt 4) every time and all the time he'd even dare to show up on the scene.

We need to do likewise and realize we have the mind of Christ 1 COR 2:16 that is if we're renewing our minds with his word. Rom 12:1,2 I'm not saying one doesn't have to assess a problem and develop a plan but if one is allowing oneself to be at their wits end and have their life agitated with no end well...you've been inflamed. How do we quench the devil's fiery darts? With the shield of faith which is faith in the word of God! ! No matter how big our problem God has a promise that can cover it even if its casting all our cares, worries and concerns upon Christ for he cares for us. Once we do that we thank him in love that he's got the problem and is working it out. In closing 1 Pt 5:8 says to be sober and vigilant when it comes with dealing with the devil. Vigilant means realize this isn't play time! Certain things need and must be done with some good force and determination if we're to have hope of being more than conquerors in Christ. Rom 8:31 Let's be that shall we today or at least endeavor to be by giving it everything we've got! How about it? :)

My experience of being shielded from Satan's fiery darts by the shield of faith has been tangible. No heat or threat from words meant to demean and discomfort. Content of comments intended to aggravate simply evaporated.

Spiritual special effects, in essence.

Sometimes Satan, rightfully known as “the wicked one,” attempts to destroy us by direct attack. He and his demons attack by shooting fiery darts at God’s people. Sometimes Satan comes after us with a dart of discouragement; at other times he sends the dart of mistrust, telling us to doubt our own faith. Satan also sends darts of lust, lies, rumors, gossip, jealousies, covetousness, and temptations of all sorts. The devil has a quiver full of darts, and he sends exactly the right ones our way when we least expect it.

Satan wants to ruin our testimony and destroy our lives. But when we arm ourselves with the shield of faith, we are able to quench every dart Satan sends our way.

Your OP is full of encouragement, definitely an iron sharpening iron moment.

Very true but our objective is to discourage him as well. And when he tells us to doubt our own faith we need to strongly suggest to him he better doubt his. If he in any way has faith that we will sign on to discouragement and despair we tell him with no uncertainty that NOPE my heart is fixed trusting in the Lord. Ps 57: 7 (To be fixed means to have your heart locked in) If its locked in it CAN'T BE OPEN.

To be clear that is not to say one has signed onto discouragement merely because they're tempted to be so. It's what we do with that fiery dart which determines if we've accepted it or to any other temptation to the flesh or the natural mind. (That includes worry too and also everything else)

LOL....there is a scripture I like found in 1 Cor 16: 13 where it states, "Quit you like men" put that way in the King James. In modern lingo it could be said to mean MAN UP! (as we say in the current day) In other words develop maturity and understand what we're dealing with. The Christian life is a thing of great joy for sure but with the Christian life we're not on a pleasure cruise ship but rather we are enlisted as soldiers (sailors) on a Battle Ship.

If one feels an impact on the boat (of a devil attack) and it knocks the coffee cup out of your hand you don't whine about it and whimper and complain, "Hey what's this all about?!?!?" No you get at your post with the heavy guns (metaphor for the word of God) and blast away and you stay at your post until further notice. The Bible says we are to resist the devil and he will HE WILL FLEE FROM YOU. Many talk about a spirit of fear the devil is trying to give them.....but if language means anything if you battle courageously using the word of God the spirit of fear will boomerang back upon him and his forces. Much more could be said but good enough for now. :)
Satan wants to ruin our testimony and destroy our lives.
Sure he does bur we're committed to want to ruin his testimony as well. He's told the world God is unloving, unkind and indifferent but by letting our light so shine before men and speaking the word of God they can come out of the darkness of his lies and deceit . Jesus ruined the devil's testimony wherever he went. He showed what God the Father was truly like and that's our mandate as well. :)
