The angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. [...] You will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” They went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger (Luke 2:10-11,16).

Yesterday I was putting up our charismas tree and outside lights I had a very big disappointment. When I got around to setting up my favorite, "The Nativity" I had Mary and Joseph, the angels, shepherds and The Three Wise Men.

But Babby Jesus was nowhere to be found.

Your not the only one.

Mary and Joseph lost Jesus at the temple after a pilgrimage to Jerusalem when they were returning home. Assuming he was with other relatives and friends in their large traveling group, they did not realize he was missing until after a day of travel. They returned to Jerusalem and found him three days later in the temple, engaged in a conversation with the teachers and amazing them with his wisdom.

The setting:
The story, recounted in the Bible in Luke 2:41–52, takes place after Jesus, at age twelve, had traveled with his parents to Jerusalem for the Passover festival.

The separation: On the journey back, Mary and Joseph did not know Jesus had stayed behind in the temple. They mistakenly thought he was among the large group of family and friends with whom they were traveling.

The search: After a full day of travel, they discovered he was gone and went back to Jerusalem to look for him.

The discovery: They found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking questions.

The response: When Mary asked him why he had done this, Jesus replied, "Did you not know that I must be in my Father's house?" Mary and Joseph did not fully understand his response at the time.

The outcome: Jesus returned with them to Nazareth and was obedient to them, while his mother kept the events in her heart. The story is significant as it is the only account of Jesus between his infancy and his public ministry.
