How to Become a Disciple of Jesus Christ

The Bible shows us the way.

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20

Holy Scripture gives us principles related to becoming a disciple and to making disciples:

Believe: That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9

Belief in Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord gives you eternal life in heaven.

Repent and Be Baptized: Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38

Repentance means you turn from your sin and then publicly confess Christ in baptism.

Obey: Jesus replied, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.” John 14:23

Obedience is an indicator of our love for the Lord Jesus and His presence in our life.

Worship, Prayer, Community, Evangelism, and Study: Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved. Acts 2:46-47

Worship and prayer are our expression of gratitude and honor to God and our dependence on His grace. Community and evangelism are our accountability to Christians and compassion for non-Christians. Study to apply the knowledge, understanding, and wisdom of God.

Love God: Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.” Matthew 22:37-38

Intimacy with almighty God is a growing and loving relationship. We are loved by Him, so we can love others and be empowered by the Holy Spirit to obey His commands.

Love People: “And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” Matthew 22:39

Loving people is an outflow of the love for our heavenly Father. We are able to love because He first loved us.

Make Disciples: And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others. 2 Timothy 2:2

The reason we disciple others is because we are extremely grateful to God and to those who disciple us, and we want to obey Christ’s last instructions before going to heaven.

Thanks, and Great topic.
"The Bible shows us the way" ... many are falling away from the truth for their OWN TRUTH. but as said, "The Bible shows us the way". and the Lord Jesus is the "WAY", and the TRUTH. we all need to get back to BIBLE.

Holy Scripture gives us principles related to becoming a disciple and to making disciples:

Believe: That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9
Romans 10:9-10 is NOT a formula for salvation. The people Saul is writing to are already saved and he is quoting to Old Testament in order to encourage his audience of Jewish Christians.

1 PAUL, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God,
2 (Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,)
3 Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;
4 And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:
5 By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name:
6 Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ:
7 To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called [to be] saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 1:1–7.

The words in brackets [to be] are not in any of the best manuscripts from which the KJV is translated. It should be read, "called saints" which a survey of the Old Testament the ONLY people whom God calls saints are those in covenant with Him, that is, the Hebrew children of Jacob/Israel. And the ONLY people God calls [His] "Beloved" is His Bride and His Bride in the Old Testament is Israel. They are also called the "great congregation" by Solomon and others.

Acts 2:38
Peter was speaking to the twelve tribes of Israel who were represented by the various people in Jerusalem when he spoke. The twelve tribes of Israel are already in salvation covenant with God through the Mosaic Covenant God promised Abraham in Genesis 17:17, and fulfilled in Acts two when the Holy Spirit of Promise PROMISED TO ISRAEL by the prophet Joel converted three thousand Jews that first day of the Jewish Feast of Harvest (AKA "Pentecost.")

41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. Acts 2:41.

If you read Joel's prophecy, you'll see the promise of God's Spirit is promised to Israel, NOT Gentiles.

Jesus is quoting the Old Testament in Deuteronomy 6 which were words God spoke through Moses to the children of Israel. This command was never given to non-Hebrew Gentiles.
Intimacy with almighty God is a growing and loving relationship. We are loved by Him, so we can love others and be empowered by the Holy Spirit to obey His commands.

Love People: “And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” Matthew 22:39
Studying the original command on love in Leviticus the "neighbor" was someone of another tribe which were situated in certain plots of land surrounding the Tabernacle in the desert. Three tribes to the north, three tribes to the west, three tribes to the south, and three tribes to the east. The command was given to the children of Israel and Jesus, who was teaching the children of Israel was quoting Leviticus to the Jews who heard Him.
Loving people is an outflow of the love for our heavenly Father. We are able to love because He first loved us.
A study on the command of God to the children of Israel on love came with instruction. We are never to love anyone God hates. That would be treasonous. And God hates the world. Love is supposed to be given to fellow believers ONLY, never to anyone who is not saved/born-again.
Make Disciples: And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others. 2 Timothy 2:2
Christians cannot disciple unbelievers. The command to teach others refers to teaching only those who are saved and born-again. No matter how much one tries they cannot make sheep out of goats. We must wait to disciple only those who are born-again.
The reason we disciple others is because we are extremely grateful to God and to those who disciple us, and we want to obey Christ’s last instructions before going to heaven.
Although you are giving textbook responses to these things let me say that you are sincere but are sincerely incorrect on many points. I hope you consider the Scripture over the teachings of men who do not correctly teach the Scripture. If you need assistance just ask. But make sure you are teaching correctly because leading one astray has consequences.

15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 1 John 2:15–16.

We are commanded to NOT love the world (of unbelievers) for we do so foolishly then we are loving God's enemies and this is unbiblical. It is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the Living God.

Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the
forgiveness of your sins.

I suspect Peter's formula is obsolete because Jesus gave Paul a different message.
He said:

Rom 10:8-12 . .The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart, that
is: the word of faith we are proclaiming: That if you confess with your mouth,
"Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you
will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is
with your mouth that you confess and are saved.

There's no baptism in Paul's formula; in point of fact he scarcely baptized anybody.
If baptism were so all fired important, he would've baptized believers all across the
Roman world wherever he preached the gospel.

I find it very difficult to buy into the posit that folks will be lost when they hear and
believe the gospel in locations where a proper water baptism is nigh unto
impossible; for example Nazi concentration camps like Auschwitz and Dachau, and
the Russian gulags prior to Nikita Khrushchev's administration.

Water baptism's resolute proponents have put the Holy Spirit in a bit of a dilemma.
The thing is: according to Eph 1:13 and Eph 4:30, when sinners hear and believe
the gospel, the Spirit seals them unto the day of redemption, which is the day when
Christ's family circle receives new bodies and the blessing of perpetual youth. What's
to become of all the believers whom the Spirit sealed but thru no fault of their own
leave this life without water baptism?

When you think about it; a mandatory water baptism asserts that the success
and/or futility of all the trouble that Jesus and his Father went thru pertaining to
mankind's redemption hinges on a two-minute ritual.

Salvation is of the LORD (Jonah 2:9.)
Men cannot choose God or to be saved because of their BONDAGE to sin. Their sin nature is depraved and cannot do anything towards God or salvation. A stronger man must come and bind the strong man and then He can pilfer his goods. God does the choosing, not man.

18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
19 And this is the condemnation, that light [CHRIST] is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light [CHRIST], because their deeds were evil.
20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light [CHRIST], neither cometh to the light [CHRIST], lest his deeds should be reproved. John 3:18–20.

Men hate Christ/God. They hate when Christ shines His Light upon them and their sin. Men bound in sin have only one master and it is sin, not Christ. They never choose Christ which is why God must choose man. But God must first deliver man from sin and once the man is free then there is only one place to God: God. God does not drag anyone. But once free - and free indeed - then the man goes to God of his own will because there is nowhere else to God.

10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
13 Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips:
14 Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:
15 Their feet are swift to shed blood:
16 Destruction and misery are in their ways:
17 And the way of peace have they not known:
18 There is no fear of God before their eyes.
Romans 3:10–18.

Jesus: "neither cometh to the light" [Christ], and Saul, "there is none that seeketh God" both understand the bondage of sin. But it is not enough that Christ died for the sinner. The Holy Spirit in the world today must apply the salvation bought by the Son to a sinner or that sinner will not become saved. God does the choosing, not man.

16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. John 15:16.

Men have only one master: sin. Men hate God. They despise God because their darkness cannot comprehend God's light. Men prefer darkness. Men scurry for the dark recesses of a darkened corner like when you turn on the light and roaches scurry to hide in darkness.

One must remember and acknowledge that God created man sinful. That's the only way he can be created: sinful. God cannot reduplicate Himself in Himself nor can He reduplicate Himself after He created creation. Thus, man was not created possessing any of God's Attributes or Nature. Man was created fallen short of God's glory. The word for that is sin. And that is why man (and woman) sinned and ate from the forbidden tree. Sin comes from sinner as wickedness comes from the wicked.

13 As saith the proverb of the ancients, Wickedness proceedeth from the wicked: 1 Samuel 24:13.

Man was not holy, or righteous, or sinless in his creation. There is only One God, there is NONE like Him, and He gives His glory to NO ONE. God is Holy, God is Righteous, God is Sinless. Man was sinful. Man did what came natural to him. He sinned. But God had a plan to redeem man, to save him from sin. That plan required the Holy Child born of a woman to redeem those whose names are written in the book of life of the lamb slain from [before] the foundation (creation) of the world.

8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. Revelation 13: 8.

God sent His Holy Son to die a substitutionary death for man. Christ took upon Himself the penalty for sin and that was death. He died in place of those whose names are in the book of life. And when He resurrected then the plan took on a different dynamic. Now, the Holy Spirit is in the world today to apply the salvation bought by the Son to God's chosen elect - those is the book of life. And soon, after the last 'man' whose name is in the book of life is saved, then Christ will return to finish His work. When Christ returns, He is bringing something with Him: the completion of our salvation.

1 And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. Daniel 12:1–2.

There is no "accept Jesus into your heart" because no man chooses Christ. Their bondage to sin is too strong. But when the stronger man comes, He binds the strong man and pilfers his goods. And this is what Christ did on the cross. In taking the penalty of our sin, it killed Him. But as a perfect sacrifice before God His atonement was accepted and now there is salvation to be given to man. But only to those whose names are in the book of life. This is the story of redemption. This is the story of salvation.

.
There is more than one mode of baptism in Christianity.

The ritual baptism performed with water by ordained ministers is superficial and
merely identifies people as card-carrying Christians, whereas the supernatural
baptism performed by God's spirit penetrates to the soul and makes folks joint
principals with Christ in his crucifixion and his resurrection.

I suspect there are numbers of card-carrying Christians at large who go their entire
lives without ever knowing there's a distinct difference between those two modes of
baptism and that they aren't necessarily simultaneous.

It isn't necessary for people to be familiar all with the information contained in
Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. According to 1Cor 15:1-11 they only need to know
a couple of key points, to wit: Jesus gave his life a ransom to protect sinners from
retribution and that his crucified dead body was restored to life within three days.

Ritual baptism is neither mentioned nor emphasized in that passage so i think it's
safe to assume it isn't essential to salvation.

FAQ: How might someone obtain this ransom about which you speak?

REPLY: First off; it's necessary to be agreeable with Paul's two key points listed
above.

1Cor 15:1-2 . . Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to
you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel
you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you
have believed in vain.

If so; then find yourself some privacy, any place will do. Cover your face with your
hands; it will give you a sense of connection. In your own words, out loud or under
your breath, tell God you've never yet met his standards and you're pretty sure you
never will. Tell Him you'd like to take advantage of His son's death to protect
yourself from retribution.

True, Biblical discipleship is living with your teacher and being discipled the same way the disciples lived with Jesus. Anything short of this is NOT discipleship.

baptism is a pagan BAAL religion practice which was added to His words
and is not what He said, nor ever happened to Christ on this forsake sin realm earth.

Never mentioned in the OT for good reason.

Fish religion.

“And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭8‬:‭37‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Pick up your cross and follow Jesus.

The Holy Scripture teaches us how to become disciples and how to make disciples.

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
MATTHEW 28:18-20

Believe
Belief in Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord gives you eternal life in heaven.

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 10:9).

Repent and Be Baptized
To repent is to turn from your sin and then publicly confess Christ in baptism.

Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38).

Obey
Obedience is an indicator of our love for the Lord Jesus and His presence in our life.

Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them” (John 14:23).

Worship, Prayer, Community, Evangelism, and Study
Worship and prayer express our gratitude and honor to God and our dependence on His grace. Community and evangelism show our accountability to Christians and compassion for non-Christians. We study to apply the knowledge, understanding, and wisdom of God.

Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved (Acts 2:46-47).

Love God
Intimacy with Almighty God is a growing and loving relationship. We are loved by Him, so we can love others and be empowered by the Holy Spirit to obey His commands.

Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment” (Matthew 22:37-38).

Love People
Our love for others flows from our love for our heavenly Father. We are able to love because He first loved us.

And the second is like it: “Love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:39).

Make Disciples
We disciple others because we are grateful to God and to those who disciple us, and we want to obey Christ’s last instructions before going to heaven.

The things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others (2 Timothy 2:2).

The 'Holy Scripture' does not teach anyone "how" to become a disciple or "how" to "make disciples." It merely records there are disciples (in a teacher-learner relationship) and proceeds from there. There is no brochure or spreadsheet in Scripture that lists methodologies about how to become a disciple or making one. There are only narratives in Scripture that record many types of relationships among people (husband-wife, brother-sister, master-slave, king and subjects, etc.) that are raw in nature that we as Christians are instructed to study for our training and admonition. What we do is take the groups of these recorded relationships and through comparative study learn the intricacies of those relationships to see what worked and what didn't.
Believe
Belief in Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord gives you eternal life in heaven.
Statements like the one above must be understood in context of the covenant the Hebrew people had existed in with their God from Abraham to Jesus Christ. Although 'belief' in Israel's Savior is written of throughout Scripture, there is no requirement in any of their covenants that they "must believe" as requirement to be in covenant at all. Typically, God chooses out an individual and promises to do this and that and then proceeds in the course of time to fulfill His promises contained in said covenant. In the covenant promises God makes to Abraham and his offspring God only required circumcision of the flesh from Abraham and his offspring, which they did as required by God:

10 This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised.
11 And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt me and you.
12 And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of thy seed.
13 He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.
Genesis 17:10–13.

In the Mosaic Covenant God promises many things and the only requirement from the children of Israel is their obedience:

5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:
6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.
Exodus 19:5–6.

In the New Covenant prophesied by the prophet Jeremiah, God through Jeremiah declares that He will forgive Israel's sins and He will remember them no more. While still under the Mosaic Covenant Jesus Christ comes to God's people, Christ teaches the people to remain obedience to the Mosaic Covenant and its Laws, and then God uses Jesus Christ as part of the Ceremonial Law to become the sacrificial lamb of God who dies a substitutional death in place of the animal sacrifice and for the children of Israel, which God places the sins of Israel upon Jesus Christ for the atonement of Israel. In all this the New Covenant instituted by Jesus Christ at His last Passover has been fulfilled by His life and deeds and eternal life is promised by God to those He has redeemed through covenant.

4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
Galatians 4:4–5.
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 10:9).
This is not a formula for salvation as salvation has already been given to the children of Israel by God resulting in the salvation of Abraham and his seed/offspring, a people identified as the children of Israel.
First, the children of Israel have already been forgiven and Saul's words in letter is written to a people who are already saved. In the original Greek the translation of Saul's statement doesn't say one must believe in Jesus Christ to be saved, but that Israel has already been saved and proof of this is the confession of the people that Jesus Christ is Lord, God raised Him from the dead, and their belief of all this happening is evidence of their salvation. It doesn't say "to believe," but that confessing Jesus Christ is the evidence they have been saved already by Jesus Christ at Calvary.
Repent and Be Baptized
To repent is to turn from your sin and then publicly confess Christ in baptism.
Baptism, as part of the Mosaic Law, are the ritual cleansings the high priest makes in preparation of his ministry to the people. Public confession is not necessary to a people who have already been atoned.
Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38).
In Peter's sermon to the twelve tribes present in Jerusalem who are there for the Feast of Harvest, the people that assisted in Jesus' crucifixion and who have denied Jesus before Pilate must now repent (change their mind) and confess Jesus Christ to the glory of God His Father. This is why it is done "In the Name of Jesus Christ."
Obey
Obedience is an indicator of our love for the Lord Jesus and His presence in our life.

Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them” (John 14:23).
Again, the context is the children of Israel as they are already in covenant and that this covenant is eternal and everlasting.
Under the Law the people knew how to worship God.
Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved (Acts 2:46-47).
This is the result of a new and regenerated people.

With the Holy Spirit of Promise dwelling within people their love for what God has done in redeeming the seed of Abraham and making everything they do come alive.
Love People
Our love for others flows from our love for our heavenly Father. We are able to love because He first loved us.

And the second is like it: “Love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:39).
In Leviticus God teaches the children of Israel who to love and how to love. It is to be shared among brethren ONLY. God never taught the people to love anyone other than their own neighbors and kin.

Boyd Bailey, Two Minutes in the Bible
No one can be discipled in the things of God unless they are first born-again, and also that they are willing to be taught.

It is impossible for sheep to teach goats how to be sheep. Whether it is you or this "Boyd" fella, you and he have never truly been discipled in the things of God, angels, and man. Mostly all the passages you post have not been correctly understood, and your misinterpretations are seen. Have you ever met Professor Jacob Arminius? Probably not, but it appears you are taking his teachings and the teachings of the Remonstrants and have posted them here.

@Nannette,
you're correct,
Pick up your cross and follow Jesus.

The Holy Scripture teaches us how to become disciples and how to make disciples.
for it is the Holy Spirit that is the teacher who makes disciples. for he teaches. for Ephesians 4:11 "And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;" Ephesians 4:12 "For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:" Ephesians 4:13 "Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:" Ephesians 4:14 "That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;" Ephesians 4:15 "But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:" Ephesians 4:16 "From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love." Ephesians 4:17 "This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,"

and apostles, prophets, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers are gifted by the Holy Spirit to make disciples. for the scriptures are true, John 12:32 "And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me." John 12:33 "This he said, signifying what death he should die."

if one know nothing of him and his death how can anyone witness for him? for one must know who God is to witness for him. Isaiah 43:10 "Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me."

that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he? when will we KNOW and UNDERSTAND him.. answer, Isaiah 52:6 "Therefore my people shall know my name: therefore they shall know in that day that I am he that doth speak: behold, it is I." this was fulfilled in John 8:24 "I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins."

John 8:31 "Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;"

Matthew 11:29 "Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls."

a disciple is a LEARNED one.
G3101 μαθητής mathetes (ma-thee-tees') n.
a learner, i.e. pupil.
[from G3129]
KJV: disciple

another word for LEARN is to understand acquire a knowledge of. and what did Isaiah 43:10 "Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he.

KNOWLEDGE and UNDERSTANDING makes disciples. so, Nannette, you're correct.

Make Disciples

Matt 23:15 . . Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You
travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and when he becomes one, you
make him twice as much a son of hell as you are.

That kind of futile proselytizing goes on in Christian circles too, for example
Jehovah's Witnesses and Latter Day Saints, et al. And yet I wouldn't call those
groups charlatans because they honestly and sincerely believe themselves God's
bona fide source of truth and they are not easily persuaded otherwise.

But the thing that disturbs me most is that there are incompetent, poorly-instructed
Christians at large trying to lead folks to Christ who should not be trying because
their message is permeated with destructive errors.

That's why Jesus left us the Holy Spirit

.
Jesus crucifixion is sometimes called substitutionary. But Christianity's one-time
atonement is an event that invites folks to participate rather than only observe.

To wit: By a mysterious administrative process which I do not yet fully understand,
God reckons Christ's inner circle as joint principals in his crucifixion, viz: they are
accounted as being with him on the cross.

Rom 6:3 . .Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ
Jesus were baptized into His death?

Rom 6:6 . . Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him

Gal 2:20 . . I am crucified with Christ

Col 3:3 . . For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.

In addition; seeing as how Christ's inner circle is accounted participants with him
when he was crucified, then they are also accounted participants with him when his
crucified dead body was restored to life.

Rom 6:4-5 . . For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death,
we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection

Eph 2:6 . . God raised us up with Christ

Col 2:12 . . Buried with him in baptism, wherein also you are risen with him

Col 3:1-3 . . You have been raised with Christ,

Now, the thing is: Jesus' crucified dead body was restored to life with immortality.
(Rom 6:9, Rev 1:18, Rev 2:8) So then, folks unified with Christ in his death and
resurrection have perpetual youth in the bag, i.e. it's a done deal and it's irrevocable.
