A Doxology is reserved for God. Below we see the Triune God mentioned in the Doxologies and opening of some of the N.T. letters. The NT declares that honor and glory are due to God alone. Some doxologies only mention Christ which speaks volumes about what the Apostles thought about Him and His Glory as God. The clear fact is Jesus receives the identical glory that the Father receives. These passages also make it abundantly clear of Christ’s pre existence and glory prior to creation(see John 17:5 below). He is therefore eternal just as the Father is eternal. Jesus received the Worship and Glory while on the earth and in Revelation receives the same honor,glory,praise and worship the Father receives in heaven. Jesus must be God Incarnate !


2 Tim 4:18
18 The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed, and will bring me safely to His heavenly kingdom; to Him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Phil 4:20
20 Now to our God and Father be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Gal 1:3-5
3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, 4 who gave Himself for our sins so that He might rescue us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, 5 to whom be the glory forevermore. Amen.

Eph 3:16-21

Invocations in the N.T.

What we see here from Paul is that he equates Jesus as the source of grace and peace with the Father. Paul clearly identifies Jesus as equal with the Father and expresses His Deity with these invocations in his epistles. Not only is this a prayer from Paul but an act of worship in Paul's letters. Paul is giving Jesus the identical same honor to Jesus as he does to the Father. After all Jesus in His very own words commanded others to honor Him as you do the Father(John 5:23) Jesus thought equality with God was not something He needed to grasp for it was inherent within His nature.(Phil 2,Col 1,John 1, Heb 1, 1 John 1 etc.....) He was God in the flesh(John 1:1,14) He said he who has seen Me has seen the Father and I and the Father are one. Why would you ask to show you the Father ? You are looking at God!!!!!!! Jesus also said before Abraham was born " I Am" ( the self existing One, with no beginning). The case for the Deity of Christ and Plurality in God is bullet proof in scripture.

The doxology addressed to the Father in Philippians 4:20 reads the same as the doxology to the Lord Jesus in 2 Timothy 4:18.
This proves they are both equally the proper recipients of worship.

Since a doxology is a hymn of praise, I think it's important to look at other passages where singing to Jesus takes place.
This is a powerful proof that He is the Almighty.

Singing to YHWH is to worship YHWH.
Psalm 66:4 (cf. 2 Chronicles 29:28)
All the earth will worship You,
And will sing praises to You;
They will sing praises to Your name.

Ephesians 5:19
speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord.

making melody is from the Greek word (psallō) used in Psalm 66:4 (LXX) --> "sing praises" (x2).

In Ephesians 5:19 "the Lord"(τῷ κυρίῳ) refers to Jesus (cf. v. 19 and v. 22).
Ephesians 5:19-24
(19) speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord; (τῷ κυρίῳ)
(20) always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father;

A. T. Robertson: To the Lord (τωι Κυριωι — tōi Kuriōi). The Lord Jesus. In Colossians 3:16 we have τωι τεωι — tōi theōi (to God) with all these varieties of praise, another proof of the deity of Christ.


The same Greek word for "sang" (adō) in reference to Jesus in Revelation 5:9 is also used for "singing" in Ephesians 5:19 and "sang" in 2 Chronicles 29:28 - this singing is a component of the worship of YHWH which took place. So when believers sing to Jesus they do so knowing He is YHWH.
Revelation 5:9
(8) When He had taken the book, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each one holding a harp and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.
(9) And they sang a new song, saying, Worthy are You to take the book and to break its seals; for You were slain, and purchased for God with Your blood men from every tribe and tongue and people and nation.

2 Chronicles 29:28 (LXX)
While the whole assembly worshiped, the singers also sang and the trumpets sounded; all this continued until the burnt offering was finished.

Finally, whenever the Bible uses the expression "a new song" (cf. Revelation 5:9) it always refers to the worship of YHWH.

Another passage that teaches singing to Jesus is found in James 5:13. The same Greek word (psallō) used by Paul in association with the "Lord" (in reference to Jesus) in Ephesians 5:19 (see above) is also used by James in association with the "Lord" (in reference to Jesus) in James 5:13-14.

(13) Is anyone among you suffering? Then he must pray.
Is anyone cheerful? He is to sing praises.

In all 3 questions from James 5:13-14 the Lord Jesus is in view. Since one is to sing praises to the Lord Jesus if he/she is sick, then one is also to pray (proesuchomai) to the Lord Jesus if he/she is suffering. Since the Lord Jesus fully knows the hearts of all, He is able to hear when one sings to Him when they are cheerful, and He is able to hear when one prays to Him when they are suffering.
James 5:13-14
(13) Is anyone among you suffering? Then he must pray.
Is anyone cheerful? He is to sing praises.
(14) Is anyone among you sick? Then he must call for the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.

Concerning the word "pray" (proseuchomai) in James 5:13, it is also used in association with the "Lord" (in reference to Jesus) in Acts 1:24.


The Greek word for "raise" (egeirō) in James 5:15 is the same word used in Acts 3:6. In both Acts and James this was done in the name of the Lord/Jesus.
James 5:14-15
(14) Is anyone among you sick? Then he must call for the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord;
(15) and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him.
Acts 3:6
But Peter said, “I do not possess silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you: In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, rise up and walk!”

Notice further that the same word for "forgiven" (aphiēmi) and "sins" (hamartia) and "name" (onoma) in James 5:14-15 are also used in reference to the name (His name's sake) of Jesus in 1 John 2:12.

What the Old Testament said about "prayer" in reference to YHWH, James says about "prayer" in reference to Jesus being YHWH.

The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.

Just as Elijah prayed to YHWH in the Old Testament, the believer today is to pray to Jesus as being YHWH.

(18) Then he prayed again, and the sky poured rain and the earth produced its fruit.

The Greek words used for prayer in James 5:13-18 are seen below. This demonstrates the Lord Jesus is the proper recipient of all of them. Being "the Lord of the Sabaoth" (James 5:4), His ears would hear the prayers of those who pray unto Him.
