Did David cheat versus Goliath?!

About David that was different. He really had a heart for God and I believe his word....the Old Covenant. He was a young man who took I think the promises to Israel very seriously and wouldn't back down from them. Interesting to note when he talked to his brothers before slaying Goliath he brought in the covenant as the reason to why he was bold. He declared,

"Just who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?”

In other words we're the circumcised....we're the ones with the covenant. We're the ones of which God has said if our enemies come against us one way they will flee seven. Duet 28:7 That's pretty much the attitude David had.....he said too NOT JUST GOLIATH! But all the rest of you Philistines!

"This day the LORD will deliver you into my hand. This day I will strike you down, cut off your head, and give the carcasses of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the creatures of the earth. Then the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel.

In other words he's gong to defeat the whole bunch of them!

All his other brothers were saying he was being arrogant, the Living Bible says, "You cocky dude!" But they stayed hiding in the holes not standing for what God said their rights were in the land. Because David was acting on the covenant he was the one acting in true humility.

Excellent points !!!

I had this thought the other day really for the first time.

It seems to me, it is assumed in the fight that it would be hand to hand combat.

Yet David used a projectile weapon that can kill from a distance, like a bow and arrow.

One might point out Goliath had a (single) spear, but these are also used in melee.

So isn't that really cheating?
No, David was very innovative and resourceful and accomplished what Hashem had empowered him to do.
Shalom

The Bronze Age Philistines (with metal armor and iron swords) were already at an advantage against the Israelites [that appear to have learned true Sword-making after King Saul, so HAD NO IRON SWORDS in their army]. It was a one-on-one contest between armies using whatever weapon each champion chose. Goliath was already cheating by being a giant, wearing armor he believed impenetrable to enemy bronze & stone weapons and wielding a superior iron sword ... then calling for a "one on one fight among equals" that were anything but equal.

wow i didn't see you on here for awhile
I get tired of the same old "CHRISTIAN" arguing, so I take long breaks to watch another season of "The Chosen" or something more mentally soothing (I like "Robin Hood" ... both the Errol Flynn version and the Disney version with a Fox and Bear). :)

I thought Calvinists hated the Chosen.

"Calvinists" hate everyone and everything. They teach that right after the secret handshake.

Fortunately, I am a Particular Baptist, so The Institutes and the WCF are not required reading. I would hate everyone and everything if I was forced to memorize those long, boring books. ;)

[Baptists only recognize the 66 books as authoritative ... SOLA SCRIPTURA!)

Interesting video that covers some of these ideas:

Right.
Goliath challenged the people and the God of Israel. David was willing to try the armor but was willing to go without it. Once the challenge involved whose god had powerful on their side, then Goliath would have both his armor and whatever protection by his god. Of course, Goliath thought he had the advantage but it was not a true advantage.

Just as a point of interest, the popular recent show House of David has depicted Goliath using the ranged weapon of the throwing spear, which would indeed make it more even.
