So you believe that man in general is not capable of choosing to believe or not - that all humans start off as mindless worthless idiots, incapable of understanding the Gospel. Yes your understanding of Jesus is and how one is saved is false.
Romans has the theme of faith (Romans 1:16–17). Paul addresses the process by which faith is produced in the heart in Romans 10:17: “Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.”

I would say the enemy of our souls is the behind that teaching. 1 Peter 5:8 ("your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour") and Ephesians 6:12 ("for we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places"). Other verses, such as Psalm 143:3 and Psalm 7:5-7, also use the phrase "enemy hath persecuted my soul" or "let the enemy of my soul pursue".
We can choose, the bible tell us so.
Deuteronomy 30:19 states, "I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. Therefore, choose life, that you and your offspring may live". The verse is a call to action, urging the listener to choose obedience to God's commands, which are presented as the path to life, blessing, and fulfillment for themselves and their descendants, rather than the consequences of disobedience, which lead to death and curses.
