There's lot of rooms for false doctrines as a forgivable sin, very few people seem to put in the effort to seek God and be completely honest, to get their doctrine straight.
But some doctrines strike more at the heart of core beliefs and necessary truths that contain God's grace for us.
Say, just for example, I believe God doesn't punish sin at all.
Say that I believe, just for example, that the Blood of Jesus doesn't really do anything for sinners, Jesus was just a perfect man who was martyred for being righteous.
Say that I believed Jesus dying on the Cross was not to really atone for any sin at all, it was just to show how loving and forgiving Jesus was.
No sin.
No wrath.
No holiness.
No vicarious punishment for sins.
Now step back, and say I call this "atonement."
Jesus "atoned" for sins by just showing how loving he was to be killed by some sinners.
But your sins?
Jesus didn't need to get "beat up by his Dad" to pay for your sins, that's nasty and grotesque and makes God a big mean old monster.
God can forgive without beating up an innocent bystander!
So then, how are sins being "atoned" for at all?
