if one want to clearly understand the Genesis chapter 19, one need to study Judges chapter 19. when one compare both chapter side by side, one will see clearly that the men of Sodom are not homosexual.

...ok, except then for what reason did the men of Sodom start to treat Lot et al so badly with such fervor. Taking the sexual aspect out the story makes it a meaningless attack doesn't it?

Genesis 19:8 "Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof."

now for the mob around Lot house, they wanted to "KNOW" why these strangers showed up at eve tide and Lot who is a RIGHTIOUS Judge took the men, (angels) into his house, who Lot called them "lord". they wanted to KNOW who they were and why they came into the city. and the anger came when Lot refused their demands, then it turns ugly.
remember, they not long ago was invaded by several kings and their armies and over runed the city. to understand this mentality of of the Sodomite men, a good example to understand this, is in the book of Joshua chapter 2, just as when the children of Israel came into the promise land they sent men to .... "Spy out the Land", and came to Rehab house in the .... CITY" of Jericho. and the king in that incident sent for the men... for the king found out or "KNEW or it was KNOWN" that they were sent to spy out the land, (as with the angels who want to stay in the city streets, to assess the cry of the wickedness of the city), but as with Rehab she hid the spies.... WHY? else they would have been killed. see the point now. so yes, these men of Sodom, as with any city would want to 'KNOW" who comes and go out of their gates, especially strangers. and when it was refused to turn over the stranders, to hide them, as Rehab did or protect the strangers here with Lot. the crowd turned angry. because, with any possible threat to one city security.... aiding and abetting is serious. remember the crowd didn't turn ugly until the refusal to turn them over for interrogation, that they may "KNOW" their intention of coming into the city. hope this helps.

that FEAST of UNLEAVENED BREAD, that's the PASSOVER. Lot is instituting the Passover in his home. that term "unleavened bread" is the Hebrew word, H4682 מַצָּה matstsah (mats-tsaw') n-f.
1. (properly) sweetness.
2. (concretely) sweet (i.e. not soured or bittered with yeast).
3. (specifically) an unfermented cake or loaf.
4. (elliptically) the festival of Passover (because no leaven was then used).
