To all, the two key set of verses, with supportive corroboration from other scripture in the bible, will reveal the truth about Sodom and Gomorrah and why it was destroyed.
"Was the Men of Sodom Homosexual?"
the heart of this KNOWLEDGE are in two sets of verses from chapter 19. which follows.
set A. Genesis 19:1 "And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and
Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them;
and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground;"
Genesis 19:2 "And he said, Behold now,
my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant's house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night."
set B. Genesis 19:6 "And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him," Genesis 19:7 "And said, I pray you, brethren,
do not so wickedly."
Genesis 19:9 "And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This one fellow came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge:
now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door." "
Let’s Examine these set of scriptures closely and extract the truth out of them.
Part A.
Lot a Judge now in the Gate?
To understand the reason why the men of the city surrounded Lot house and asked for the two men, we need to understand what lead up to this encounter. because all the men of city before the two men, (the angels) showed up never encircle Lot house before. so we need to examine what lead up to this event. we start at the GATE.
Genesis 19:1 "And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat
in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground;"
Notice, Lot sat “IN” the Gate of Sodom and not “AT” the Gate, but “IN” the gate. What is the meaning or the significant of sitting “IN” the gate of a city? Answer, when one sat in the city gate or entrance it is more than a welcome service. court matters was held in the gate, prophets cry-out/preached in the gate, and other activity or civil, or personal matters were settled in the gates of the city. usually it was two gates, an outward and inner gate, with considerable distance between them, i.e. ….. like a courtyard. hence the term “IN” the gate or between the two gates. agreements were verbally sealed in the presence of witnesses at the city gate. so business was conducted “IN” the gate. again, Legal, and Civil matter was settled “IN” the gate, as well as commerce. so, who enter and exit the gates was important to KNOW. hello…. to “KNOW. and it is the JUDGES, elders who sat IN the gate who conducted the business of the day.
So, what is the significant of our brother Lot sitting in the gate at the city of Sodom? understand, this system was a extraordinarily exceptionally system in settling disputes and doing business, but with any system as good as it and its directives in its setup….. when human are involved, corruption can raise its ugly head. the Judges was supposed to be righteous Judges, but the prophet Amos in his book wrote of this ugly corruption in some of the judges in his day and gave indictments on those who sit “IN” the gate in corruption.
indictment#1. Amos 5:7 "Ye who turn judgment to wormwood, and leave off righteousness in the earth,"
this term “wormwood” means, H3939 לַעֲנָה la`anah (lah-an-aw') n-f.
wormwood (regarded
as poisonous, and therefore accursed).
[from an unused root supposed
to mean to curse]
KJV: hemlock, wormwood.
Poisonous? as we have seen in the garden of Eden when Satan, “LIED” to our mother Eve. as we know the LIES of the devil are poisonous. for it is symbolic for what is in the head of the serpent. for scriptures are clear. Genesis 3:15 "And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel." bruise the head of the serpent? question, what's in the head of the serpent? answer, fangs, and in those fangs is
poison, just as here in Amos, “wormwood”, or the poison which comes .... lies. deceit, and all types of unrighteousness, as we will see here, attempted murder.
indictment#2. Amos 5:10 "They
hate him that rebuketh in the gate, and they
abhor him that speaketh uprightly." Amos 5:11 "Forasmuch therefore as your treading is upon the poor, and ye take from him burdens of wheat: ye have built houses of hewn stone, but ye shall not dwell in them; ye have planted pleasant vineyards, but ye shall not drink wine of them." Amos 5:12 "For I know
your manifold transgressions and your mighty sins:
they afflict the just, they take a bribe, and they turn aside the poor in the gate from their right." (READ THAT AGAIN). Amos 5:13 "Therefore the prudent shall keep silence in that time; for it is an evil time." Amos 5:14 "Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so the LORD, the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken." Amos 5:15 "
Hate the evil, and love the good,
and establish judgment in the gate: it may be that the LORD God of hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph."
This is the indictment that cause the riot at Lot house,
and establish judgment in the gate. and we will see it clearly when the righteous stand accused of doing RIGHT.
We see the corruption in the gate, from the prophet Amos, but that’s not all. because there is more evidence to the corruption of “IN” the gates in Sodom. and the bible call it out by associating the crime to the actual city of Sodom by name. for the bible will give us the answer to every question one may have about anything concerning the bible. as HERE, in Genesis chapter 19. but we must find it. just as the prophet Isaiah recorded, Isaiah 28:10 "For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:"
Now, the prophet Amos last indictment combined with the prophet Jeremiah gives us the complete understanding, of, “establish judgment in the gate”.
Jeremiah 23:14 "I have seen also in the prophets of Jerusalem
an horrible thing:
they commit adultery, and walk in lies: they strengthen also the hands of evildoers, that none doth return from his wickedness: they are all of them unto me as Sodom, and the inhabitants thereof as Gomorrah." (READ THAT AGAIN). Jeremiah 23:15 "Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts concerning the prophets; Behold, I will feed them with wormwood, and make them drink the water of gall: for from the prophets of Jerusalem
is profaneness gone forth into all the land."
the
horrible thing: is they
commit adultery, and
walk in lies:
they strengthen also the hands of evildoers. Just as WHO? "as Sodom, and the inhabitants thereof as Gomorrah."
so we see the setting of a righteous man sitting in the gate among the wicked. now two more Righteous men who are Lot's lord have enter the city, now the stage is set for confrontation.
tomorrow the continence of part A.
