The Jewishness of the Second Testament

In understanding the Jewish foundations of the Christian faith most people recognize that the First Testament is very Jewish. Many even think that the Second Testament is a Gentile book and not very Jewish at all.
But let’s put this in perspective.

The First Testament and the Second Testament are actually two halves of exactly the same book and if you want to understand the Second Testament you first need to understand the First Testament.

In Gentile minds they believe that the Second Testament supersedes the First Testament, but this is not the case. What most people don’t understand is that the Second Testament is so unbelievably Jewish. If you push a Gentile mind into something that is inherently Jewish at every level, they can come up with some unfortunate understandings or interpretations. Although this is not deliberate on their part, it was deliberate in the early centuries in men’s attempts to severing its Jewish connection.

The Second Testament was written entirely by Jews. Most biblical scholars that read the New Testament understand it was written entirely by Jews and for the Jews. The writers themselves wrote with Jewish or Hebrew understanding and the historical framework of the original writers had written from was from the framework of Judaism.

The first four books of the Second Testament called the Gospels is completely written to a Jewish audience and it’s about Jewish history as it was unfolding. These were the eyewitness testimonies of what was happening in Judaea, the home of the Jews, to the Jewish people. It mentions the despots or occupying forces of the Romans and Herod who were oppressing the Jewish people.

The Second Testament is also a book about fulfilled prophecy. Most people when they read the Second Testament don’t realize how many times the Second Testament is referencing the First Testament.

The writers of the Second Testament could not look up Matthew or take a quote from apostle Paul out of Colossians because they only had the First Testament to reference, and they were filled with prophecy. Jesus Himself referenced and quoted the First Testament speaking about their prophets out of the books of Moses and Daniel and Jonah and others. When Jesus was asked a question, He took the person back to the First Testament. He wasn’t coming up with something new but firmly and solidly answered all questions by referencing the First Testament writings.

Jesus was always quoting the First Covenant. Jesus was addressing a Jewish audience in the sermon on the Mount by bring up the First Testament writings by saying, “You have heard it said…” or “It is written…” then He’d quote the passage relevant to His response in answer to the question.

Another fact is the Second Testament was written in the language of the Jews. We have the Second Covenant Scriptures written in Greek because they were living at a time when the culture was Greek and Hellenistic but the Jews themselves spoke Aramaic and Hebrew. So, even if they were speaking in Greek they were still talking about Hebrew and Jewish concepts and principles and traditions.

The language they used was the language of the Jewish people. The Second Testament is a book of Jews dealing with Jews. You had the Jewish believers that were dealing with antagonism of the religious Jewish leaders who had rejected Messiah. There were also Jewish believers dealing with issues of a growing Church and how the Holy Spirit was moving. For instance, such as when Gentile believers started wanting to join the Church and the question of whether or not they had to become Jews and circumcised. Even when Paul preached to his Jewish brethren and said, “I am going to go to the Gentiles” everywhere he traveled he went to the synagogue first and he preached to the Jews out of their Law that this Jesus was their Messiah and Redeemer and King.

The Second Testament is a book about Jewish history. Everything that unfolded in their present time always reflected to the First Covenant and the history of the Jewish people. In Corinthians Paul speaks about their forefathers and their wandering in the wilderness and their rebelliousness and concludes all of that happening was for your learning.

When you read through Revelation it is referring to history future not just history of the world but directly how it will affect the Jewish people. Most people just don’t realize how Jewish Revelation is. It talks about the Temple and the various practices going on there.

James, the apostle to the Jews, also talks about Jewish history and directly addresses his epistle to the “twelve tribes scattered abroad” which was true for the Jews had been living far and wide in Gentile lands as a result of the Diaspora and exile and conquest by first the Assyrians and then the Babylonians. When Jesus sent the apostles out in Acts 1 He sent them out to take a message to the twelve tribe descendants that Israel’s Messiah, Redeemer, and King had come and that God had kept His Promise in fulfilling every prophecy up to that time and with a message directly from God.

The book of Hebrew also explains so much of Temple practices and principles and Jewish history written to the Jews (Hebrews) and the relevance of all the symbolism of Judaism with the covenants, the promises, and their Law. All of it explained in Christ.

Peter, James, and John, all three known apostles to the Jews write to the Jews and on many subjects going directly to the effect the Messiah and Christ had brought upon them with His arrival and what it meant to Israel living at that time. Paul’s letters to the various Jewish churches in Asia Minor speaks directly to his Jewish brethren on many issues confronting their new faith in Messiah and how it was to play out in their daily lives.

For perspective, Jesus fulfilled all the Old Testament prophesies and the Mosaic Law was done away with. In 70 ad when God allowed Jerusalem to be demolished, not one Jew knows his tribe now. We all share one God, one Faith, one Baptism through Jesus Christ our Savior.

Galatians 3:27-29 - For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's offspring, heirs according to promise.

You do know that Paul was writing to Jewish Christians in his circular letter to Asia Minor, right?
There was issue in the mind of the Jewish Christians he was writing to about the effect Messiah had on Judaism and since it was the 3000 Jews who were saved at Jerusalem during their Feast of Harvests celebration these Jewish Christians returned back home in the Gentile lands they visited from and took Jesus with them, and a small outline of the things Peter was saying to them in Acts 2.
You have the benefit of 2000 years of theology developed during this history, while the first century Jewish Christians didn't have that and in the beginning had to muddle through until more able men and women thought through the OT Scriptures to see the New Covenant reality. So, take that into consideration when you read these Jewish letters to Jewish Christians and Jewish churches and try to discern what was going on in their Judaic religion and Messiah's effect He had on it.

That's pretty presumptuous of you to say no Hebrew knows his or her roots/descendants.
When you realize salvation is of the Jews and that it is their covenant that has touched your life if it has touched it at all and that considering the reality that God made no covenant with Gentiles hopefully knowledge of the truth will come to you.
Until then, you can't read and study the New Testament Covenant Scripture writings of the Jewish Christians who wrote about Jewish issues to other Jewish Christians with a Gentile mindset.
At the Marriage Supper of the Lamb Israel is there by covenant.
Gentiles are there by invitation.
Matt. 22.

First I'm part Jew and probably more Jewish than you. Do you know what tribe you are from? Once again, we are all one in Christ, period. When you stand before God, He is not going to ask you your tribe, only do you know Christ as your Savior, and if not, He'll say depart from me I never knew you.

First, Paul is writing to Jewish Christians in his circulate letter to Asia Minor (Galatia.)

PAUL, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead; )
2 And all the brethren which are with me, unto the churches of Galatia:
3 Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ,
4 Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father: 5 To whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. Gal. 1:1–5.

The mention of "God the father" would be unknown to Gentiles carried away by these dumb idols. But the fatherhood of God would be known to the Jewish Christians.

The whole letter speaks of Jewish people, history, concepts and ideas, Jewish culture and Judaic practices and the level of Paul's statements and the depth of knowledge in his words could only be understood by Jews. When Paul comes to the passage you state:

2 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
Gal. 3:2.

Gentiles knew nothing about "the works of the Law."

6 Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. Gal. 3:6.

Gentiles would not know who Abraham was and his participation in his covenant.

10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. Gal. 3:10.

The terminology Paul uses only a Jew would understand, not Gentiles.

13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: Gal. 3:13.

Paul says "redeemed us from the curse of the Law" meaning himself and his fellow Jewish Christians he is writing to. Gentiles were never "under the curse of the Law." Paul's reference of "hanging on a tree" would be understood by Jews (Jewish Christians) he is writing to from their Law.

In the next verses Paul writes about Abraham, his seed, the Law, transgression of the Law, and
that "the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe" Gal. 3:22.

This promise was given to the children of Israel. Gentiles know nothing of the history Paul writes about, but Jewish Christians would know.

24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
29 And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Gal. 3:24–29.

Paul is writing to Jewish Christians in this letter. He may bring up Gentiles but this letter and everyone Paul writes (with the exception of two personal letters to Timothy who was Gentile) are written to Jewish Christians. In vs. 29 Paul has been trying to explain that Messiah was promised to the children of Israel and that this promise fulfilled by God doesn't separate them from the Abrahamic Covenant as many of them feared as this New Covenant was just that - new - and Jews were unsure about what Christ's arrival had on the Abrahamic Covenant, and the Mosaic Covenant, and all the promises God made to Israel. The things taking place in Judaism and the arrival of the Holy Spirit of Promise - and maybe some spoken in tongues - would need to be explained to these Jewish Christians in the Asian churches that if you were a son of Abraham (and there is no prophecy to Abraham of a Messiah - he is clueless) then you would also be 'related' to Christ, and that "if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise"

Paul, in this New Covenant of the house of Israel (Jer. 31) is explaining the conjunction of the Abrahamic Covenant (Gen, 17), and the Promise of Messiah given in the Mosaic Covenant (Deut. 18) are inclusive to each other and the one (Christ) joins them to the other (Abraham) and they were perfectly fine where they stood as Jewish Christ-followers in this New Covenant God made with the House of Israel. And although Paul mentions "Gentile" he also mentions "slave" and "women." And there is no doubt that God was bringing in Gentiles and slaves (Onesimus) and women and grafting them all into the natural branches which is Israel, God is bringing in Gentiles without a covenant. He's just bringing them in as per the prophecies but doing so outside or without covenant. And this in and of itself is an amazing thing. If anything else is to be taken away from verse 28 in which Paul "flips" the name from Jesus Christ to Christ Jesus it is this. The word "Christ" is English from the Greek "Christos" which itself is taken from the Hebrew "Messias" and it means "anointing." And this "anointing" is a reference to the Spirit. Although Jews hold the "the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises (Rom. 9:4), and the Gentiles have no covenant of which to speak of, it is in "Christ" the anointing, or in spiritual matters, that both are made into one. Same with slaves. Same with women.

And God will not need to ask what tribe someone is or if they are Jew (covenant) or Gentile (non-covenant) because He will know. But there is a distinction still. God knows that His Bride Israel is at the Marriage Supper by covenant. Gentiles are at the Marriage Supper by invitation.

once again.

1 Timothy 2:5 - For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,

Ephesians 4:5-6 - one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

You mix up Paul's letter, and it was a personal letter, to Timothy a Gentile, and Paul's letters to Jewish Christians that made up the Christian churches in Asia Minor and other Gentile lands. Paul's Ephesian letter is written to Jewish Christians so read it without the Gentile mindset and try to comprehend it with a Jewish mindset. If you sincerely do this you will come away with a lot more than before.
Salvation is of the Jews - and so are their Scriptures.
You're not going to convince me otherwise. I know the truth and it has set me free.

Paul letters were copied so all others could read the same words. When the apostles wrote letters, it was intended for all the churches to pass around. The New Testament canon was established by the end of the 1st century. Essentially, all the the Gospels and letters were written (except apostle John's) about the same time period within 20 years. All the church's passed Paul's letters, Peter read Paul's letters.

2 Peter 3:15-16 - and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation—as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you, 16 as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures.

You're going to have to retract your statement about Ephesians being addressed to Jewish Christians. Have you actually read what Paul said?
[Eph 1:1 LSB] 1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, To the saints who are at Ephesus and [who are] faithful in Christ Jesus:

[Eph 2:11 LSB] 11 Therefore, remember that formerly you--the Gentiles in the flesh, who are called "Uncircumcision" by the so-called "Circumcision," [which is] performed in the flesh by [human] hands--

[Eph 3:1 LSB] 1 For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus on behalf of you Gentiles--

Addressed to gentile believers

God asks us to return to our eden land in the other reality. Same thing ever since the fall. The OT fathers did not listen and it resulted in captivity.

His souls are to leave Egypt,
and go Home to our promised land.

The only saints in the world are those in the Old Testament.

8 He keepeth the paths of judgment,
And preserveth the way of his saints
Prov. 2:8.

21 I beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them;
22 Until the Ancient of days came, and judgment was given to the saints of the most High; and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom.
Dan. 7:21–22.

3 But to the saints that are in the earth,
And to the excellent, in whom is all my delight.
Ps 16:1–3.

7 The angel of the LORD encampeth
Round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.
8 O taste and see that the LORD is good:
Blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
9 O fear the LORD, ye his saints:
For there is no want to them that fear him.
Ps 34:7–9.

Paul is writing to Jewish Christians. ALL his letters - except Timothy - are written to Jewish Christians. While the Temple still stood the New Covenant Church was founded by Jews in Jerusalem and Jews were the only ones who populated. Until soon after the destruction of their Temple.
[Eph 2:11 LSB] 11 Therefore, remember that formerly you--the Gentiles in the flesh, who are called "Uncircumcision" by the so-called "Circumcision," [which is] performed in the flesh by [human] hands--

Mentioning Gentiles who were being saved in very small numbers is not evidence that Paul wrote to them. Since the split between the Jews and the Jewish Christians who could not continue attending their Shabat/Sabbath in their synagogues the Jewish Christians began to gather and fellowship in their homes. Being a baby Church, they did not readily understand their Messiah's effect upon the Abrahamic, Mosaic, and even the Davidic Covenants and had to muddle through in the beginning making errors as they went along and grew up (Peter's choosing of Matthias is one error). As Gentiles began to 'convert' to Judaic Christianity and wanting inclusion (Acts 15 circumcision council) into the Jewish home fellowships, and while the Temple still stood everything about these new Messianic events had to be held up against the covenants and the prophecies of Messiah and the New Covenant Scriptures in order to understand this "New" thing YHWH was doing with regard to the Jewish people.
Although you have been erroneously indoctrinated to see the New Covenant Jewish Writings as a Gentile and with a Gentile mindset try to understand them from a Jewish perspective and I promise you your understanding of the God of Israel and His "so-great salvation" will deepen.

The Spirit of Promise was given to Israel in Jeremiah 31.

13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory. Eph 1:13–14.

Only Israel had the covenants, and the promises, and the Law, glory by which their inheritance was in God.

Paul wrote to Jewish Christians at Rome as well:

4 Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;
5 Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen. Rom. 9:4–5.

Messiah and Redeemer and Deliverer and King was promised by God to His covenant people Israel. Jesus Himself said, [He] was not sent but to the lost sheep of the house of Israel." The New Covenant is between God and the House of Israel (Jer. 31:33), ALL the New Covenant writings by Jewish Christians (Peter, James, John, Paul, etc.) were written to Jewish Christians (James, to the twelve tribes scattered; Hebrews, etc.) since Messiah was fulfillment of the covenants and promises and prophecies God made and sent to and for the House of Israel. Israel did possess all the covenants and all the promises and all the prophecies and the first Christians were Jews. Peter's sermon in Acts 2 is addressed specifically to the twelve tribes represented at their Jewish Feast of Harvests in which YHWH mandated under covenant all Jewish males attend in Jerusalem. These 3000 Jews that were saved returned to their homes in Gentile lands and took Jesus with them and founded all the New Covenant home churches that are named in the New Covenant writings of Paul and James and John, etc. It makes no sense for God to spend 4000 years in Redemptive History working out the covenants and promises and prophecies to His Bride and Church Israel and at the most momentous occasion of completing His redemptive plan that His first words in this New Covenant are to Gentiles carried away by their dumb idols.
Israel possesses all the covenants.
God has made no covenant with Gentiles and is saving them without covenant. The Times of the Gentiles will end, and the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob will turn His full attention back to Israel and fulfill all covenantal promises and prophecies and as Paul says, "All Israel shall be saved."

I'll let Paul himself refute your faulty understanding.

Ephesians 3:1-10 LSB — For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus on behalf of you Gentiles— if indeed you heard of the stewardship of God’s grace which was given to me for you; that by revelation there was made known to me the mystery, as I wrote before in brief. About which, when you read you can understand my insight into the mystery of Christ, which in other generations was not made known to the sons of men, as it was now revealed to His holy apostles and prophets in the Spirit: that the Gentiles are fellow heirs and fellow members of the body, and fellow partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel, of which I was made a minister, according to the gift of God’s grace which was given to me according to the working of His power. To me, the very least of all saints, this grace was given, to proclaim to the Gentiles the good news of the unfathomable riches of Christ, and to bring to light for all what is the administration of the mystery which for ages has been hidden in God who created all things; so that the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known through the church to the rulers and the authorities in the heavenly places.

God's Promises are eternal, everlasting.
Salvation is of the Jews.
If you want to make attempt to steal their covenants, their prophecies, their promises and THEIR Messiah go ahead.
I will not succeed.
