Here is what some actually believe that I have read lately. They would rewrite John 3:!6 this way since it is exactly what they believe the verse is saying.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever (conditionally believes in Him might perish or live depending upon meeting those conditions that are added to their faith after being conditionally saved), but have conditional life a life that might be temporal and not eternal.

Remember God does not save you, give you eternal life because its up to you to remain saved and have everlasting life. Humans are the Savior, not God.

What a farce its humanism, works based salvation and contradicts all the promises that Christ made and guaranteed with Eternal Life/ Salvation for those who believe.

hope this helps !!!

That seems to be the human tendency when it comes to salvation. Man wants to have his hand in it somehow some way. Just accepting the free gift of salvation is too easy. Our human pride wants us to believe we did something to deserve it or earn it. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.

8For it is by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not from yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9not by works, so that no one can boast. 10For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance as our way of life.…Ephesians 2:9–10

But don't you know that you are not really saved by Gods grace through faith and that its not a gift to keep but can be taken away from you. You must keep yourself saved by your works. It there is not enough works to keep you saved then you don't measure up and salvation is removed, eternal life becomes conditional life, temporal life based on your faith, lack of faith, works, lack of works etc.......

What a see saw, wave riding, ditch digging, task oriented, man based salvation. God is left scratching His head at His own inability to save a person from sin and keep them saved. He becomes impotent to save, a helpless Savior who depends on sinful mans ability to keep himself saved.

The question that always comes to my mind about works salvation is... how do you know whenever you've done enough works? In other words how do you know you're saved?
It’s impossible and can only be wishful thinking and not based biblically upon assurance , faith , hope in Christ etc ….

In Romans 6:20–23, Paul invites Christians to consider their lives before coming to Christ and since. He also compares the contrasting rewards of each way of life: “When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death! But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Before salvation, we were slaves to sin and destined for death. But through faith in Jesus Christ, we received the gift of God, which is the salvation of souls unto eternal life: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him” (John 3:16–17).

The word gift (charisma in Greek) in Romans 6:23 means “a present given as a sign of good favor.” Ephesians 2:8–9 elaborates on this gift: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.” The gift of God does not depend on our behavior. It cannot be earned, like a wage. The Bible calls it a “free gift” (Romans 6:23, ESV). We don’t work for the gift of eternal life; we receive it simply because God’s good favor is poured out on us.

The gift of God is His “abundant provision of grace.” It is “not like the trespass,” which brings death through sin. “God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ” brings everlasting life (Romans 5:15–17; see also Romans 3:24; Ephesians 1:7–8). Sin pays its wages in death, and sinners get what they deserve. But God bestows a free gift, and believers in Jesus Christ receive what they don’t deserve—eternal life.

The gift of God is Jesus Christ, His Son. The apostle Paul thanks God for His “indescribable gift” in Jesus (2 Corinthians 9:15). Jesus calls Himself “the gift of God” in the form of “living water” to the woman of Samaria (John 4:10). Jesus provides this definition of eternal life: “Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent” (John 17:3). The gift is knowing the One True God through a relationship with Jesus Christ, His Son, who is Himself eternal life.

Christians receive all of Christ’s benefits because of our union with Jesus Christ. Jesus died, and therefore we have died in Him (Romans 6:3; Galatians 2:20). Christ was raised from the dead; thus, we were introduced to new life (Romans 6:4–5). He lives to God, and now we live to God (Romans 6:10–11). Jesus Christ will live forever, and we will live eternally with Him (John 17:3; 1 John 2:25).

The only grounds for receiving the gift of God is the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross. Jesus is the righteous channel of God’s gift of grace poured out by His blood (1 Peter 1:18–19; Revelation 1:5). If we are in Christ through faith, we receive every spiritual blessing in Him (Ephesians 1:3–14). “God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life” (1 John 5:11–13).

The gift of God is abundant spiritual life—a life with meaning, purpose, and joy—from the moment of salvation and for all eternity (John 10:10; 1 Corinthians 2:9). The old life of sin has no benefit and only leads to death. But serving God has the advantage of sanctification leading to holiness and the gift of God—eternal life in Jesus Christ.got?

While there are many verses that say that the way to have eternal life is by believing in Jesus, then are also many verses that say that the way to have eternal life is by obeying God's commandments, which is straightforwardly because God's commandments are His instructions for how to believe in Jesus, such a in Matthew 19:17, Jesus said that the way to enter eternal life is by obeying God's commandments, and in Luke 10:25-28, he said that the way to inherit eternal life is by obeying the greatest two commandments. An inheritance is something that we receive as a gift. So while there is no need to rewrite John 3:16, there is the need to understand what it means to believe in Jesus in light of what other verses say about the way to have eternal life. Eternal life is the experience of knowing God and Jesus (John 17:3) and God has given instructions for how to have that experience, so God is saving us by teaching us how to have that experience. Those instructions were not given to teach us how to earn our salvation/eternal life as a wage.

To use an analogy. there can be a house that has an unlimited power supply and someone can be like a device that remains eternally powered for as long as they remain plugged into the outlet. In other words, we need to remain in the vine in order to have eternal life. Someone who separates themselves from the vine dies like flowers that have been cut.

The thing is God doesn't allow that to happen. When you truly understand your salvation and love God for saving you want to obey him. That's what lordship salvation is all about. But if you think you don't need God and can go back to doing your own thing two things will happen. If your truly saved you'll come to your senses and come back to your father's house once you realize how miserable your life is without him. Or you continue on down that path continue to believe the lie that you can do life your way. In that case you were never really saved. You may have taken that walk down to the altar and said a little prayer but you were never born again. You may have all the appearances of a Christian but you still have a heart of stone.

If in order to save the concept of eternal security you need to add that we have it unless we happen to be someone who was never saved in the first place, then you rob it of security, so that is self-defeating.

Could you elaborate on that please.

Certain things must be true of the man or the woman who intends to establish a relationship with holy God. There are changes to be made, changes that we are hopelessly incapable of making ourselves. Our sin has caused us to fall short of God’s standard. Thus in our natural state, we are destined for a godless eternity.

Listen.

If you say keeping faith is somehow a work, then by that same logic your initial faith is also a work.

Just because you allow one "work" to get salvation, doesn't mean you aren't works salvation.

Therefore by this stunted logic, only the complete elimination of all free will choices is grace.

Even one tiny choice to "accept" Jesus with your free will, logically becomes works salvation.

Herein lies the problem. If God is perfect, He is perfectly just. How can a perfectly just God make a guilty person not guilty? As Dr. Ryrie says in Basic Theology,

There are only three options open to God as sinners stand in His courtroom. He must condemn them, compromise His own righteousness to receive them just the way they are, or He can change them into righteous people. If He can exercise the third option, then He can announce them righteous, which is justification.

Dr. Ryrie brings to our discussion a very important term, justification. To justify people is to declare them not guilty. In the book of Romans, Paul makes it clear that Christians have been justified. To him, there is no conflict between God’s justice and His willingness to justify sinners. He says,

For the demonstration.... of His righteousness at the present time, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
Romans 3:26

God does not wear rose–colored glasses. He is not in the habit of pretending something is true when in fact it isn’t. So how can He declare guilty men and women “not guilty”?

Paul sums up the answer to that question in his second letter to the Corinthians:

He made Him [Jesus] who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. 2 Corinthians 5:21

So if we're Justified and made not guilty, How is it we have the ability to put ourselves back under sin and death? How do we undo what God has already done?

Not to mention all those OSAS who want their Lordship Salvation too, and just embrace complete doublespeak and illogical contradictory paradox.

By definition, if nothing you do contributes or maintains your salvation, and no free will decision affects it:

Then you cannot be Lordship Salvation, it's a contradiction.

Not really. Eternal security is not a license to sin.

If in order to save the concept of eternal security you need to add that we have it unless we happen to be someone who was never saved in the first place, then you rob it of security, so that is self-defeating.

This is 100% logically sound.

Thank you for pointing it out.

Not really. Eternal security is not a license to sin.

Doublespeak is solving a contradictory scenario where you cannot logically make two opposites compatible, by just closing your eyes, sticking your head in the sand, and asserting a violation of the law of identity.

Either it's NOTHING you do, or else it's SOMETHING you do.

It logically cannot be both unless you just allow absurdity, then anything goes.
