'Hast thou faith?
have it to thyself before God.
Happy is he that condemneth not himself
in that thing which he alloweth. '
(Rom 14:22)
Hello there,
The verse above is written in the context of 'food and drink', and showing love to a brother who has a problem of conscience, regarding eating and drinking, He is advised to come alongside, and join his fellow believer in his abstinence, even though for him there is no problem, in order to show love and support, in the knowledge that God knows his own heart, and the faith that he holds, in Christ Jesus His beloved Lord and Head, risen and glorified and set at God's right hand.
Though this is in relation to food and drink, I have tended to think that it also has an application in regard to the sharing of spiritual food, and drink, and the truth we have received. For if in the company of a babe in Christ who is only capable of digesting the milk of the word, should the believer, who by constant use has become acquainted with the Scriptures, and by the Holy Spirit become proficient in it's use, share what he has learned with his younger brother, truths, which because of his lack of knowledge and experience could cause him to stumble? Should he not in this situation 'keep' what he has learned before himself and God, with Whom he has to do, and commit the brother to God; The Holy Spirit: Who knows the stage of every believer's development, and therefore can allow him to learn at a pace suited to him. I would value your thoughts.
* Please Consider:- Heb. 5:13 & 14, and 1 Cor. 3:2.
Thank you
