'Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together'

my Brother Chris,

BIG THANK YOU again.

i am including @Selah and @civic on this for i know they love to pray.

TESTIMONY = Your prayers for "BALM" for my physical pain were answered yesterday = HalleluYAH

A couple of hours after we last spoke, i had to finish a job which required chainsaw cutting of a large Oak tree that was already on the ground from our previous day of work. For two hours i cut split and loaded heavy wood with my 19 year old son Daniel(SAVED in CHRIST)

Bear this in your heart/mind = Yesterday after i finished work i could BARELY WALK!!! i was in so much PAIN and had to use a WALKER to move around the house.
My wife called the Surgeon who performed complete Hip Replacement surgery last year in May on my Right Hip.
The pain is now on my Left Hip! = i was Broken hearted greatly yesterday knowing another surgery, that i was hoping would not come, at least not for another five years or so.
LYMES Disease eats away at your joints and nerve endings, it also can cause 'brain fog'(opportunity for jokes here @civic - lol).
AND, i never shared with you how Lymes gave me cancer when i was 40 = HalleluYAH, cancer was DEFEATED by the MERCY of CHRIST.

TODAY i do not have pain = i have been Praising God and saying: LORD i know you did this by the "effectual prayers of the Saints".

i only told you and one other Brother(not on this forum) of my PAIN
Oh, so sorry to hear of your trials. Yes, I’ll certainly be praying for you. Seems like our Father’s all-sufficient grace has been all over you and carries you daily, one day at a time. Stay strong in Him, David.

God bless you,
Selah

There once was a man named 'Job' = more then once now! = James 5:7-11

Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain. You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.

Do not grumble against one another, brethren, lest you be condemned. Behold, the Judge is standing at the door! My brethren, take the prophets, who spoke in the name of the Lord, as an example of suffering and patience. Indeed we count them blessed who endure.
You have heard of the perseverance of Job and seen the end intended by the Lord
that the Lord is very compassionate and merciful.

More trials of my faith are STARING at me as there is something that God created me for that is simaliar to the trial of Ester.
i will share in more detail as the days draw closer and will need your effectual prayers lifted HIGH!
For now, this is my dilemma and HE is not taking it away from me.

And Mordecai told them to answer Esther: “Do not think in your heart that you will escape in the king’s palace any more than all the other Jews.
For if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”

'Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering;
(for He is faithful that promised )
And let us consider one another
to provoke unto love and to good works:
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together,
as the manner of some is;
but exhorting one another:
and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.'

(Heb 10:23-25)

Hello there,

I have on more than one occasion had the words, 'not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together', used as an admonition: For I do not attend a place of worship. Church attendance being the usual interpretation of this passage (above).

The word 'assembling' (episunagoge), and its cognate (episunago), are never used of an 'assembling' in the sense of attending service at church. Episunago is used in Matthew 23:37, for the Lord's desire to gather the children of Jerusalem to Himself as a hen does her chickens. It is used in Matthew 24:31, of the gathering together of the elect by the angels. It is used in Mark 1:33 and Luke 12:1, for the crowd who gathered for healing or interest.

The only other place where episunagoge occurs is 2 Thessalonians 2:1, 'The coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and our gathering together unto Him'. The Apostle by the use of the word 'forsaking' evidently glances back to such passages as 2 Chronicles 24:18, where the 'forsaking' of the house of the Lord meant apostasy, and was visited with wrath, and also to Nehemiah 10:39 and 13:11, where adherence to the house of God indicated loyalty. The 'gathering together of ourselves' has value only as it foreshadows the hope of 'our gathering together unto Him'. At the present time faithfulness to truth and to the blessed hope sometimes cuts us off from Christian assemblies, and this passage must never be used to justify compromise. The present dispensation knows no 'place of worship' except where Christ sitteth at the right hand of God, For God dwelleth not in temples made with hands. Churches and chapels are conveniences, not essentials.'

Thank you
In Christ Jesus
Chris

Their gathering together would be some form of "church" in that they would be meeting to share teachings of Christ and fellowship. They were not likely to do this in the synagogues. They would have to find some other place, which would identify them as followers of Christ. Many apparently were in fear of being identified as Christians such that they wanted either to rejoin the sacrificial system or pretend to do so.

This was a message to a broad group of people in a certain situation. The message still seems applicable today -- both to be fed and to feed others. However, this would not have to apply to individuals in all situations.

Amen. For such a time as this. This fleshly life, in which we have many trials and tribulations, is only temporary; then comes e t e r n i t y! And how heavenly it will be when “God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” - Revelation 21:4 (KJV)
