Heresies

“For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you” - 1Co 11:19 (this answers to why there would be evil—to know what is good—NC).

Heresy is a work of the flesh (flesh, i.e. “old man” or sin nature—NC); “Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies” (Gal 2:20). “But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who secretly shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them” (2Pe 2:1).

“For I know this that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them” (Acts 20:29). Heresy is error, often resulting from a portion of truth taken out of its proper context, or its dispensational setting, and used to form a sect, etc.

“They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us: (1Jn 2:19). Heresies cause us to be like the noble Bereans, who “were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so” - Act 17:11 (lacking too much in studying God’s Word—esp. the NT, is why so many believers are often excessively discouraged—NC).

“So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified” (Act 20:32). Heretics (by their errors—NC) cause us to learn how to correctly handle error and share truth.

“The servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient; in meekness instructing those that oppose themselves” (2Ti 2:24, 25). Christian character is formed, and God is glorified. “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2Ti 2:15).

It is a definite mercy that in His wisdom God allowed every possible form of error to arise in the apostolic era of the Church’s history, in order that all might be exposed, and the truth declared through inspired men, that thus the faith in its simplicity might be preserved for the generations to come. As a result of this, Satan has nothing new to offer. Old heresies are redressed and brought forward as new conceptions of truth from age to age; but in this respect, ‘there is nothing new under the sun.’ Old errors are being presented in new terms.”

—Henry Allen Ironside (1876-1951)

MJS daily devotional excerpt for October 7

“There is not a more difficult lesson in the Christian life than to come to a true knowledge of what the flesh is. Its terrible power, its secret and universal rule, and the blinding it exerts in keeping us from the knowledge of what it is, are the cause of all our sin and evil. Hence it comes that so few really believe in their absolute inability to obey God or to believe in His love. And there is nothing that can deliver us from it but that entire willingness to die to the old man, which comes when by faith we understand that we have died in Christ Jesus.” –Andrew Murray (1828-1917)

Great passages with stern warnings we should all heed and examine ourselves in light of them. Thanks for posting them as we know in cyberspace on the internet there are many many heresies being tossed around in the online forums.

Hi, and appreciate your comments! The only combat for heresies is reading and studying the Word more.

pre-trib rapture ???

Heresy or Gospel Truth ???

The question is NOT, in any way denying His Second Coming.

i never read any material from Ironside but i can tell you that the entire Scriptures expose every lie that satan and men can spew out their mouths.
Scripture is also Self-Correcting = meaning there are no contradictions.
Contradictions come from mens minds when they are preoccupied with doctrine(s) that are not approved from Scripture even though they may find some scriptures to seemingly support their doctrine/pov.

2nd question: What fuels a heresy???

HI, and appreciate your comments! Yes, God has left nothing hiding concerning error!

Very true, no mistakes with Him in anything! There are Scriptures that appear to be contradicting but never truly are, but I believe this is to cause the believer to read and study more of the Word for correct understanding.

They serve to attempt to elevate those who desire to be first in the eyes of the beholders.

Big THANK YOU for your Fellowship in the TRUTH, as not many understand these things that pertain to our Daily Bread of Eternal LIFE

Here is something that is overlooked and even dismissed by the 'paper crown kingdom' = Proverbs 30:5-6

Every word of God is pure;
He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.
Do not add to His words,
Lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar.

i find it quite bizarre amongst 'christians' that the Prayer of our Savior, for us who belong to Him, is also overlooked = John chapter 17

This is just a Life Giving Portion of the WHOLE

They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.
Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.
As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world.
And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth.

SHALOM

Hi, and thanks for the comments! Being in "the last days" it's understandable that anti-Christian forces are at their highest levels; only continuing to read and study the Word (esp. the NT) can keep us encouraged!

i noticed you never answered my question: pre-trib rapture = heresy or Gospel truth

You do not have to answer as you may be placing your trust in it.

i just want to show you how to KNOW if it is a heresy or Gospel truth:

Apply liberally this Recommended heresy solvent = Proverbs 30:5-6

When you apply Proverbs 30:5-6 it removes the wool covering to see what is underneath!

Works EVERYTIME and not just for pre-trib rapture!

I’m a pre but not dogmatic whether it’s pre, mid or post.

It is very easy to know which Way when you apply Proverbs 30:5-6

As a matter of fact, it was given to us so that even a child can see and understand.

Daddy told me...........AND...........Daddy never said that = SEE how easy God made it for us!

Every word of God is pure;
He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. = Daddy told me
Do not add to His words,
Lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar. = Daddy never said that

Oh, that you would bear with me in a little folly—and indeed you do bear with me.
For I am jealous for you with godly jealousy. For I have betrothed you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.
But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

Imagine if Eve said to the Serpent: My DAD said you are WRONG, hiss off

Let me reword it for a second. It’s not something that should cause a fellowship issue.

The Lords return as in His 2nd Coming is what believers should be anticipating and ready for as taught by Jesus and the Apostles. The imminent return is an important doctrine.

Well the pre-trib doctrine does cause a fellowship issue with the Holy Spirit, aka the Spirit of Truth.

What does these THREE mean to you:
a.) "Thy word is Truth"
b.) "Sanctify them in the Truth"
c.) "no lie is of the Truth"

Are the abc's ABOVE:
a.) IMPORTANT ?
b.) overrated ?
c.) freedom of choice ?

Footnote: abc's are for God's Kids who want to Grow into His Image

I'm pretribulation. Jews that believe in God but not Christ are ones that will be going through the tribulation, but will be restored to fellowship with God. The confirmation of this is the 144,000 Jews from all the tribes.

Can you identify that which does not belong in God's Word?

a.) John 16:33 -"These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation;
but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

b.) Matthew 24:9 - “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake."

c.) 1 Thessalonians 3:1-5
Therefore, when we could no longer endure it, we thought it good to be left in Athens alone, and sent Timothy, our brother and minister of God, and our fellow laborer in the gospel of Christ, to establish you and encourage you concerning your faith, that no one should be shaken by these afflictions; for you yourselves know that we are appointed to this.
For, in fact, we told you before when we were with you that we would suffer tribulation, just as it happened, and you know.

d.) doctrine from??? = "pre-trib rapture"

e.) "Jews that believe in God but not Christ are ones that will be going through the tribulation" = in the Bible where???

Take your time and remember, this is a Open Book question and answer fellowship in the Holy Spirit of TRUTH

There is a " context " in your passages. Who is being addressed directly ?

you, me, or the disciples in John 16 and Matthew 24 ?

who is the " you " in those passages ?

also there is a huge difference between general tribulation/persecution and the great tribulation the day of Gods wrath upon the whole world. :)

'context context context'

There are TWO types of context in Scripture

What is the Correct Context according to the words of God???

a.) Historical context = who said what to whom, when and where

B.) Holy Spirit Context = What applies to who, when and where

c.) only a is correct

d.) only B is correct

e.) Both a + B are Correct

not everything we read in the Bible applies to everyone at all times. many times it applies only to those it is addressed to unless its stated in the context that its universal in application. Hermeneutics 101. :)

Hermy,
Your post is TRUE and this i KNOW

The Holy Spirit, aka Spirit of Truth, Governs all Truth including Truth-Full heremeutics.

However, the Serpent is Clever, much smarter then you and he developed his own 'Hermeneutics 101'

How can you discern between Truth-Full hermeneutics and man-made hermeneutics?
a.) your own intellect
b.) the intellectual achievements of men
C.) the Spirit of Truth
d.) freedom of choice
e.) a + b
f.) a + b + c
G.) C + a

Please return to Post 18 and choose the Correct answer, for there is only One Correct Answer that has already been Spoken by God.
