Airspace Around El Paso Shutdown for 10 Days??

Just heard this was rescinded??!!!!
I am glad it was recinded being down your way, but still one of those things that I hope more info comes out about.

I have been told that Fort Bliss adjacent to El Paso nesr the airport and white SaNds Missile Range anoit 40 miles northnkf El Paso was ground zero for our defensive efforts against the Mexican Drug Cartels, and this shutdown involves some cartel drone incursions and the HELSTF High Energy Laser Test Facility at White Sands. This is the remote facility that housed Reagan Star War research on laser weaponry. The company I worked for back in the early 80s did some some work their in this very secretive facility during the Cold War. I do know the El Paso Airport is directly between White Sands and the Cartel Areas in Juarez.

The imbedded video in the link above is very interesting concerning defense against drones!

On a side note, i remember knowing a guy in our church back in 1984 in El Paso that worked in the Civilian Area of White Sands, and I was concerned with Russia at this time in the Cold War, I asked him if we had anything to worry about with the Russians. He gave me a smirck and said, “not in the least! We are at least 2 to 3 generations ahead of them on every weapons system”. Also during that time our company worked on a job at Fort Bliss called the Patriot Training Facility. I never knew what was going on there until I saw severalnyears later on the news that our “Patriot Missiles” were shooting down Iraqi Scud missiles in Desert Storm! Small world for sure!

I sort of remember that patriot missiles were not quite up to the level of effectiveness usually claimed.

Anyhow. Here is a video of the news and possible view shared by a pilot. I have not watched it yet

Patriot missiles were a little sketchy in the beginning but they had a pretty good kill ratio for a bullet hitting a bullet so to speak.

I recall about the smae time frame of the mid to early 80s, i was driving from Las Cruces NM to White Sands over the Organ Mountains. As I crested over the Organ Pass there was a lone MP manning a road block looking out over the valley below. I was the lone driver out that day, so I rolled up and asked him what was happening. He said they are having a missile test that morning. He said it was going to happen at any minute. He pointed to the south towards Ft Bliss and said it would launch from there and fly North towards some target drones. Soon I saw a puff of smoke and heard a loud boom and saw a missile below our position screaming northward about a few hundred feet above the ground. The MP handed me his binoculars and pointed where to look. In a few seconds I saw the single missile split into two separate warheads and took out two separate drones! Whoa! 😳 I had not anticipated that and never heard of such a weapon in use later on. I looked at the MP with a surprised look and he raised an eyebrow and said I could proceed in just a few minutes.

Sounds like an interesting moment to be out driving around there.

And oops. I first thought your signature said "hit-me not Jay-me."

Long story short, people tend to refer to me as Jamie versus the hispanic version Jaime pronounced Hi-Me.

Yes it was a very interesting time to live in the El Paso area in the job I was doing.
