Promise #163:
Every good gift that you receive comes directly from My hand.

James 1:17 (WEB)
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above,
coming down from the Father of lights,
with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow.

Consider this promise for a moment. God is saying that anything good you receive in life comes directly from Him. That beautiful sunrise, the twinkle in a loved one's eye, even that raise at work—all good gifts come from the one true Father.

The Bible states that the sun shines on both the just and the unjust. This means His gifts are not solely reserved for those who have accepted the gift of eternal life. Every good and perfect gift comes from the Father of Lights.

In James 1:17, it says that God does not change like shifting shadows. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever! Hallelujah for such a gracious, loving Heavenly Father who is a giver at the very center of His heart!

In Matthew 7:7-11, Jesus encourages us to keep asking, seeking, and knocking because God is a good Father who delights in giving good gifts to His children. Like any healthy father/child relationship, it breaks the Father's heart if we only seek Him for what He provides. The gifts He gives are truly just the icing on the cake.

The most amazing thing we can ever receive from God is the gift of Himself! It humbles me to think about this promise and the kindness, love, and generosity of our Heavenly Father. It makes me want to run to Him again and again to thank Him for being so good to me!

Responsive Prayer:

Father, thank you for your generous heart, which is so full of love and blessings toward me. Help me to understand that every good gift I receive comes directly from your hand, and grant me the insight to recognize each token of your love as the fulfillment of your promise to meet all my needs simply because you are my Father and I am your much-loved child.

In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

Promise #164:
Nothing will be impossible for those who have even a little faith.

Matthew 17:19-20 (WEB)
19 Then the disciples came to Jesus privately, and said, “Why weren’t we able to cast it out?” 20 He said to them,“Because of your unbelief. For most certainly I tell you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will tell this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.

In this promise, Jesus tells us that even if our faith is as small as a mustard seed, we can tell a mountain to be thrown into the sea. Since I haven't seen many mountains hurled into the sea lately, I often wonder what Jesus meant when He said these words to His disciples.

Of course, we all face many figurative mountains in our lives daily. Perhaps it isn't the literal mountains around us that need moving, but these figurative ones. Maybe one day we will see literal mountains cast into the oceans, but in the meantime, what are the mountains in your life where you need a miracle? I love the fact that Jesus encourages us that we don't need much faith at all to make a significant impact.

From what I understand, a mustard seed is very small, yet Jesus says that even if our faith is that small, nothing will be impossible for us. Perhaps it is time to begin exercising the faith you have? Begin speaking to the mountains in your life with childlike simplicity, believing that they must be removed in Jesus' name. Who knows what might start to happen?

When I think of this promise, I am reminded of the man who came to Jesus to ask Him to deliver his son, and Jesus asked him, "Do you believe?" The man responded, "Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!" Jesus didn't rebuke the man for this response, but healed his son instantly.

God understands our frailty, yet He continues to encourage us to have faith and see what happens. Today, I am going to speak to the mountains in my life. How about you?

Responsive Prayer:

Father, thank you for the simple faith of a little child, which is enough to see mountains cast into the sea. Help me recognize that the beautiful simplicity of childlike faith is already within me; all I need to do is speak to the mountains in my life, and they will be cast into the sea because you said that nothing will be impossible for me.

In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

Promise #165:
Call out to Me and I will show you wonderful things you do not know.

Jeremiah 33:3 (WEB)
Call to me, and I will answer you, and will show you great things,
and difficult, which you don’t know.

Little children are the most inquisitive beings on the planet. They are filled with awe about their surroundings and continually ask their parents questions about what, where, when, why, how, and more. I love to see the interaction between these little ones and their loving parents. Daddy, why is the sky blue? Mommy, how come I have five toes?

It is wonderful to see the patience that loving parents have for all these questions. Although most of the time their children cannot comprehend even the simplest of answers, it isn't the answers that matter. What’s important is that parents make themselves available to their little ones and take as much time as needed to answer their questions.

When I think of this promise and how God has invited us to ask Him all the questions we want, I am reminded of the loving interaction between a parent and a small child. The thought that the God of the universe has all the time in the world to answer my questions is amazing! If you had parents who weren't available to answer your questions when you were younger, you might think that God will respond in the same way to you.

The truth is that God is the perfect Father, and He invites us to ask Him questions. His promise to us is that He will answer us and show us wonderful things that we do not know!

Responsive Prayer:

Father, thank you for having all the time in the world to entertain all my questions… even the silly ones. I pray that I never take this for granted and cherish our conversations as much as you do. For you encourage me to call out to you anytime, night or day, and you promise to show me wonderful things I do not know.

In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

Promise #166:
I reveal My secrets to those who fear Me.

Psalm 25:14 (WEB)
The friendship of Yahweh is with those who fear him.
He will show them his covenant.

King David is the author of this psalm. Today's promise explores how God reveals His secrets to those who fear Him. I love how the NIV translates this verse... The Lord confides in those who fear him;
he makes his covenant known to them.
It is important to understand that the word 'fear' is not meant to imply that we are afraid of God; rather, it suggests that we revere Him and deeply respect His awesome power.

This promise evokes an intimate image for me. I picture a father taking time from his busy day to wrap his arm around one of his little ones to share a secret. After ensuring that no one else is nearby to overhear their conversation, he whispers something so softly that no one else can join their talk.

Isn't it amazing to think that our God and Father wants to share His secrets with us? Doesn't it blow your mind to realize that we are friends of God? I am convinced that the Lord is always looking for those with whom He can share His heart.

When I reflect on this promise and God's desire to share His secrets with ME, I am humbled by the thought. My prayer is that we can quiet ourselves from all the distractions and noise of the day so that we might hear the gentle whispers of our Father's voice as He confides in us.

In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
