In Acts you see whole groups receive the Spirit.

My understanding of this, is that it is not salvation in question.. but a group of already converted believers, becoming a New Testament church.

They now have the Holy Spirit as the lampstand in their assembly.

What is your understanding?

So it gets interesting when looking at Acts 19.

This is a group of disciples of Apollos who were baptized unto John's baptism.

Apollos was mighty in the scriptures, but had to be taught more fully by Aquilla and Priscilla in the way.

They are asked if they have received the Spirit by Paul..when he was traveling through.

Acts 18:24 KJV
And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus

.Acts 19:1-3 KJV
[1] And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, [2] He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. [3] And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.

Acts 19:4-6 KJV - Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

Was this group who believed.. indwelt already, but had not received the Spirit in the midst of their assembly?

Or were they not converted until just before they were baptized in the name of Jesus?
