There are numerous mystics throughout history.
There are some common traits.
The experience of the passion of Jesus, some bearing stigmata during the experience - to which I will return on "prophecy".
Take Therese Neumman, Katya Rivas and Marthe all in recent times.
Another trait is known to charismatics. Certainly Katya and Therese could speak , understand and write in multiple languages they had not learned
Therese neumman was a peasant girl with little or no education but her aramaic was faultless how?
Katya could write for hours and did so on camera, without stopping, thinking, pausing, or correcting. No Human author can ever do that - she says Jesus dictated to her. The books are there to see. But what sets her apart is some of her writings were for example polish - a language she not only had never learned but never come into contact with. She was recorded to have (scientifically inexplicable) delta wave brain state at the time of the locutions.
But the trait that I want to draw attention to in this is inedia.
Alexandrina da Costa , Therese ( and I think Marthe) were known to have inedia, that is to neither need to eat nor drink, other than occasional wafer of eucharist which has no weight, volume or significant (earthly) nutritional content. It certainly does not provide life needed fluid.
In portugal secular authorities so despised the growing stories surrounding the mystic Alexandrina da Costa
she was forced to undergo a hospital trial by atheist doctors who intended to "prove" it was all a pious myth.
She had few friends in even the church who regarded her as a nuisance not an asset - so even they expected it was all a myth.
Grudgingly she was forced to hospital.
For 20 days she was kept in a room in which no ordinary visitors were allowed and those medical staff who did enter were searched.
Her priest gave her eucharist, wafer but that was all.
She was paralysed and bed ridden so could not have left the room even if she wanted to.
After 20 days her weight was normal her blood analysis was normal. She had neither eaten nor drunk anything. Neither urinated nor defecated
Still the doctors did not believe their own eyes. They assumed it was still a trick.
They extended the trial another 20 days with even more stringent restrictions.
The same outcome. Her body tests of blood chemistry, pulse, weight were normal.
They were forced to release her and write a report stating it was scientifically inexplicable
For a body to survive no fluid or food but stay normal at the same weight for over a month.
The eucharist and a passion for our Lord kept her alive. A miracle, verified by science.
