The fall of Hillsong

I recently came across a 4 part series on the failings of Hillsong on D*sn*y. I don't keep up to date with Christian pop culture that much so this was all new to me.

I remember in the early 2000's how Hillsong music was everywhere. That and Hosanna! Group were the popular worship music. It made me physically ill to learn what Hillsong leadership had been up to during that time. They've left thousands of people disillusioned and some have even lost their lives and their faith because of them.

I've burned all the Hillsong material that was still in my possession.

That reaction doesn't really make sense.

Did you burn the book of Proverbs and Ecclesiastes after you learned King Solomon committed sexual immorality with over a thousand women, worshiped other gods, and his last act in life was to try to murder someone?

Corruption doesn't mean God can't use something.

The material of Hillson is not scripture. Totally different.

All our heroes have feet of clay (link)

The older I get, the more difficult I find it not to be cynical about other people. I would imagine that my experience is not untypical of many others too. When we are young, we tend to look up to others: initially it is our parents, then perhaps our teachers at school, or perhaps a Sunday School teacher or even a minister at church, and may be later still a politician or a leader of industry. But as we grow older, we discover that all these men and women whom we idolised have feet of clay. There seems to be a skeleton in everybody’s closet. Or if not a skeleton, then we discover that they are beset with all kinds of warts or foibles. An American author, Ambrose Bierce, once said: “A saint” is “a dead sinner revised and edited”.

[You should follow the link and read the rest ... it is a great article.]

Yeah I checked that out a couple of years ago it was pretty sad but not all that shocking considering all that's going on in the church today. The Apostle Paul had to deal with it also. As far as getting rid of your material it's your material you can do whatever you like with it. The power of your love by Darlene Zschech Is my wife's favorite. If I got rid of that I'd be in big trouble.

Well, when everything Hillsong has been ruined so all you think about is the pedophilia they allowed, the stealing of millions of dollars, the lies, the lives they've ruined, and the wrong theology at the core of their worship songs - it's a pretty obvious decision that results.

It's not a surprise, it's in the Bible"
But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. 2 Timothy 3:13

yes the songs are man centered, not God centered.

That's what happens when one hasn't learned to test the spirit in themselves first and others second to determine whether they are of God.
Merely knowing music and to put lyrics together and make beautiful melodies does not qualify one to make music and song.
One must be called to do this.
If one is not called and makes music and song and they publish it or bring it into the Church does damage to the body of Christ.
True Christian music that is anointed by God THAT'S the kind of music that is beneficial to the growth of believers.

I've never felt better in my whole life than when I have my hands lifted up and I'm worshiping God. I don't need a band I don't need to worship leader all I need are some lyrics that tell me how great is our God.

The splendor of a King, clothed in majesty
Let all the Earth rejoice
All the Earth rejoice
He wraps himself in light
And darkness tries to hide
And trembles at His voice
Trembles at His voice
How great is our God, sing with me
How great is our God, and all will see
How great, how great is our God
Age to age He stands
And time is in His hands
Beginning and the end
Beginning and the end
The Godhead Three in One
Father Spirit Son
The Lion and the Lamb
The Lion and the Lamb
How great is our God, sing with me
How great is our God, and all will see
How great, how great is our God
Name above all names (how great is our God, sing with me)
Worthy of our praise (how great is our God, and all will see)
My heart will sing
How great is our God
You're the name above all names (how great is our God, sing with me)
You are worthy of our praise (how great is our God, and all will see)
And my heart will sing
How great is our God
How great is our God, sing with me
How great is our God, and all will see
How great, how great is our God
How great is our God, sing with me
How great is our God, and all will see
How great, how great is our God
How great is our God, sing with me
How great is our God, and all will see
How great, how great is our God

I never understood why it was 'just alright ' and not 'awesome' or 'mighty'

Were they using a colloquial term. Like that's alriiiiight! Meaning that is awesome.
