'And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea:
who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.
These were more noble than those in Thessalonica,
in that they received the word with all readiness of mind,
and searched the scriptures daily,
whether those things were so.'
(Act 17:10)
Hello there,
The Berean principle is one that we would all applaud, and seek to emulate: but when Paul received the revelation concerning the Church which is His Body,' the fulness of Him that filleth all in all', then that principle ceases to be possible, for the truth of the Mystery, made known to Paul as the Lord's prisoner, had been hid in God since before the foundation of the world, and was therefore not the subject of the Old Testament prophets, or that of anything that had been written prior to it's revelation. So it was unsearchable.
'Whereof I was made a minister,
according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me
by the effectual working of His power.
Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given,
that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;
And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery,
which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God,
who created all things by Jesus Christ: '
(Eph 3:7-9)
* I wonder whether the unsearchable nature of this truth that Paul was given to proclaim, was the reason that so many turned away from Him, as he told Timothy in (2 Tim. 1:15a) 'This thou knowest, that all they which are in Asia be turned away from me; ... ... '.This would have included the churches to whom He wrote the precious epistles, containing this glorious truth, (Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 2 Timothy, Titus and Philemon), all written as the prisoner of the risen Christ.
There was no means of confirming the truth that Paul was making known in these epistles, for all was given by revelation from above, to Paul only. 'The Mystery of Christ' was confirmable: being the subject of the Old Testament Prophets, and made known to all the New Testament apostles and prophets (Eph.3:4-5), but 'The Mystery' (Eph. 3:3, 6-7), concerning the church of the One Body, of which Christ is the Head, was made known only to Paul, and was unsearchable, because it had been 'hid in God'. (Ephesians 3:9) until it's revelation.
Thank you
