Salvation by Grace through Faith

Eph 2:8-10

8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Is Salvation by Grace through Faith here speaking of the Eternal phase of Salvation ? I dont believe so, Faith, Believing, nt anything a person does is necessary for the Eternal aspect of Salvation, for that is grounded in the Eternal Purpose of God in Christ Jesus before the world began. Grace was given the Elect for their Salvation before the world began 2 Tim 1:9-10

9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:

Man isnt eternally saved from their sins when they are brought to Faith in Christ.

It is plain to see in the Scriptures that faith, saving faith, is a gift given by God's Grace in order for a man to be converted and to believe the Truth instead of false gospels and walking in darkness, its a conversion Acts 26:17-18

17 Delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee,

18 To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.

To turn them from darkness to light is conversion The word turn is the greek word epistrephō and it means:
  1. to turn to
    1. to the worship of the true God
  2. to cause to return, to bring back

Its actually translated converted here Acts 3:19

Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;

Acts 28:27

For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

The elect are saved by being converted to belief of the Truth 2 Thess 2:13

13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

The Salvation here in this context is not eternal salvation from sins wages, but from sins power and delusions and believing lies, and serving idols. As can be seen this is the Sovereign Spirits aspect in Salvation, to convert !

These Scriptures Rom 3:27 are saying that none can boast, for salvation is by faith. Obviously then, this faith is not a work of man’s but something that must be given to him: "For by grace are ye saved THROUGH FAITH; and that NOT OF YOURSELVES: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast" (Eph. 2:8,9). What exactly this verse is referring to when it says that not of yourselves need not be debated, for it is clearly stating that grace, salvation and faith are all interconnected and one cannot have one without the others. With this connection established we conclude that grace, salvation and faith are ALL the gifts of God and none of them are as a result of man’s works. In theologizing, or debating whether this verse is talking about grace, salvation or faith as that which is not of ourselves, one misses the big picture that this verse portrays and that is that salvation, grace and faith are all gifts from God and therefore ALL OF SALVATION IS ALL BY GRACE THROUGH FAITH. The whole parcel of love from God towards His elect contains everything necessary to save them, including these three gifts. If faith was of man then it would be a work of man’s that would save him and not a gift from God. Man would be boasting and God would not have all the glory for salvation. https://www.godsonlygospel.com/faith-to-believe-what-part-2

Faith is a Spiritual Blessing given to exclusively identify Gods Elect Titus 1:2

Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness;

It identifies Abrahams Spiritual Seed who was/is of Gods Elect Rom 4:12,13,16

And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised.

For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.

Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,

Gal 3:7,9

Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.

So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.

Faith is a Covenant Blessing that accompanies Salvation Heb 8:10-11 and not a duty, or condition man must do to get or be saved whether regenerate or unregenerate.

Ephesians 2:8 For it is by free grace (God's unmerited favor) that you are saved (delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ's salvation) through [your] faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [of your own doing, it came not through your own striving], but it is the gift of God; 9 Not because of works [not the fulfillment of the Law's demands], lest any man should boast. [It is not the result of what anyone can possibly do, so no one can pride himself in it or take glory to himself.] (AMPC)

You are not reading what the passage says but your doctrine into the passage.

1- salvation - being saved is by grace
2- salvation by grace comes by/thought faith ( genitive case )
3- salvation by grace does not come from yourself- this ( nominative case ) refers to salvation ( nominative case ) which is the gift by Gods grace.
4- salvation is the gift (nominative case )of Gods grace

conclusion: gift, salvation and this are all in the nominative case is in agreement therefor they point to salvation as the gift not faith.

hope this helps !!!

For the sake of the rest of the people who read this post.

eph 2:
2 And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, 2 in which you once walked according to thecourse of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, 3 among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.

4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.

so lets look at this

1. We were dead because of sin
2. He made us alive in christ (new birth)
3. This act of regenerations happens based on Gods grace.
4. It is recieved in faith. it can not be earned by works.

The author says this is not eternal salvation.

Sadly the author is not only mistaken. but he is trying to force his believe by ignoring the very context of the passage.

What do you mean Faith in what ? What is the verse talking about ? Eph 2:8

8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

It is talking about belief in God, in Jesus Christ, in the gospel. It is by grace. Theologically the term “grace” has three basic connotations. It can refer to the gift of salvation, that which is given; it can refer to the system of salvation, the manner in which the gift is received; or it can refer to that attribute in God’s nature that makes it all possible. The grace in Ephesians 2:6 is this last one, grace in the sense of God’s graciousness. Grace is the most extreme expression of God’s love when it comes face to face with sin. Grace is God’s willingness and desire to forgive and accept the sinner in spite of his sin, to give the sinner the very opposite of what he deserves.

If that were the end of it, then all of humanity would be saved. But there is the caveat, through faith. Through, meaning "by means of", "by reason of", "by the occasion of". Faith, meaning "assurance", "belief". The primary condition for receiving (and retaining) God’s saving grace always has been and continues to be faith. This was clearly stated as early as Abraham: “Then he believed in the LORD; and He reckoned it to him as righteousness” (Gen 15:6). That salvation is still conditioned upon faith is stressed in the NT especially by John (1:12; 3:15-18,36; 6:47; 20:31) and by Paul. When the jailer at Philippi asked Paul and Silas, “‘Sirs, what must I do to be saved?’” they replied, “‘Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved’” (Acts 16:30-31). The very theme of Romans is that “a man is justified by faith apart from works of law” (3:28; see also 1:16-17; 3:22,25; 5:1-2; 10:9-10). Abraham (as in Gen 15:6) is cited as the continuing standard or paradigm of justification by faith (Rom 4:1-25; see Gal 3:1-14). See also 1 Cor 1:21; Gal 2:16; 3:26; Eph 2:8; 3:17; Phil 3:9.

Grace is God's part, faith is our part.

Eph 2:8-10

9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

True, but where does the abilty to hear come from ? Have you ever read Deut 29:4

Yet the Lord hath not given you an heart to perceive, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, unto this day.
nope he who has ears to hear let him hear. Jesus own words.

seeing and hearing are a universal ability given to all. the only exception are those who are born blind or deaf.

next fallacy

It's called eisegesis - the process of interpreting a text, (as of the Bible) by reading into it one's own ideas, presuppositions, or biases. It involves reading something into the text that is not explicitly there.
