Regret and Repentance

Perspective is essential to any sense of understanding.

I believe there is an essential aspect of repentance that both Arminianism and Calvinism do not adequately deal with "their" respective theology.

Regret.

Regret is essential to Repentance. I can make a clear case for this from the Scriptures but I would ask that each of you define regret relative to your theology.

I'll give you an example of issues I have defining regret on the context of any systematic theology.

Regret = I feel sorry for what I've done but it has lead me to change.

Regret = I feel sorry for what I've done but I can do better.

Neither of these statements match what the Scriptures teach relative to regret. However, I believe they match exactly match how some see regret in Arminianism and Calvinism.

Penny for your thoughts......

Any regret from anyone on Repentance?

Psa 51:3 For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.

Does anyone see regret in David?

Did David's sin damn Absolum?

2Sa 18:33 And the king was much moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept: and as he went, thus he said, O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! would God I had died for thee, O Absalom, my son, my son!

When you have the truth Why would you have any regrets? As far as repentance that's between us and God.

Faith in Jesus Christ naturally leads to repentance. There has been the need for repentance in the world from the time of Adam to the present day. The Lord instructed Adam, “Wherefore teach it unto your children, that all men, everywhere, must repent, or they can in nowise inherit the kingdom of God, for no unclean thing can dwell there, or dwell in his presence.”

So you don't recognize regret in repentance? Be clear.

David regretted his sin. He declared it was always before him. Paul repeatedly dealt with his sinfulness in murdering Christians.

You know what David did when Absalom died? He pardoned all his enemies......

Why are you different?

You mean Regret like when a criminal gets arrested and convicted. In most cases they're not sorry for what they did and they don't repent they're sorry Because they were caught. Once they've done their time they usually become repeat offenders often committing a word crime sometimes murdering the witnesses so they don't get caught again. So there are different ways of looking at regret and repentance.

Who says I'm different, are you making fun of my red hair? :ROFLMAO:

Deflection.

I gave you a exacting example. Why are you trying to deflect like this?

That's not the way I see it. I'm sorry if my answers aren't pleasing to you, but please note I don't regret them.

I see no regrets at all in your comments. None.

David pardoned his enemies because of the regret he felt for Absalom. Why are you so different?

There is no repentance without regret.
