Our Rest (Sabbath)

It seems that in some circles today the topic of the "sabbath" has once again risen to the "top" of the theological landscape.

I'm going to be very blunt. I find is rather silly for a Christian to believe they only worship and serve God "one day" a week on the "Sabbath". Yet that is the exact "baggage" that comes along with denominationalism and dogmas of men when they start teaching the "Sabbath".

Stop being lazy. Forget about days. If you have Eternal life in Christ, then why do this nonsense?

Christ is our Sabbath. Christ is explicitly linked to the Sabbath in Hebrews 4:3.

Heb 4:3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.

Stop being lazy. Worship and serve Christ every day of your life. Celebrate Christ every day among all peoples of the earth. Friend or foe. Family or foreign.

No wonder we are in the last of the last days with teachings such as the "Sabbath" being tied explicitly to a "day" of the week.....

What else could inevitably happen?

If you want to know God, stop serving a day. "Day" has no context in Eternal life. Serve your Master. Jesus Christ. Treasure Him. Not a day that ends with the setting of the sun.

You are preaching to the choir with me and this is one of my pet peeves. The church has fell into Greek philosophy after the apostles died off and the church became a monologue rather than a dialogue with the role of the priest, pastor with their “ sermons” and an audience.

I always tell the guys that in home groups and men’s groups where we have a dialogue happening with Q/A we see believes using their gifts in the homes. This doesn’t happen on a Sunday at a church with 100’s - 1,000’s of people gathered together.

We get way more out of small groups meeting regularly and men’s groups than we do getting “ fed “ on a Sunday sermon.

In Acts we read the net together and dialogues happened not monologues. It was interactive learning and growing.

Half the church or more has no idea how to feed themselves they are still infants and children in their walk as adults. It’s really sad. :(

Of course He is. He created Sabbath after He created the world. All of the other Commandments are in full force--I do not believe for a minute God would put a ceremonial law (one that can be deleted or changed ) in the 10 Commandments.

Hebrews 4 does not abolish the Sabbath; it warns that one can miss God’s rest through unbelief, just as Israel did. Revelation 14 shows this same issue at the end of time
“Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus” (Revelation 14:12)
showing that faith and obedience remain united. Isaiah 66 confirms the Sabbath was never temporary, declaring that in the new heavens and new earth, “from one Sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before Me, saith the LORD” (Isaiah 66:22–23).
Christ is our rest from sin and self-righteous works, but He is Lord of the Sabbath — not its replacement.

I think the "sabbath" is misunderstood. Its a day of rest and not a day of "worship" as promoted by many in Christendom.
Scriptures such as Romans 14:5–6 and Colossians 2:16 give Christians freedom to observe a special day or to observe every day as special. God’s desire is that we worship and serve Him continually, every day, not just on Saturday or Sunday.

hope this helps !!!

So you only have rest in Christ on the "Sabbath"?

The law was ADD because of transgressions. The law was never necessary other than to control and limit the sins of rebellish peoples.

As Christians, we must rest in Christ every day of our lives. It is a continual process that never ceases.

1. So why do you serve a "day"? From the beginning, it was not so.

I'm one of those people Paul mentioned in Romans 14:5
Rom 14:5 One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.

2. The Sabbath was created because Christ is the end of the work of God. The Sabbath represents Christ. Christ doesn't represent the Sabbath. The Sabbath points to Christ. Christ is the target. The Sabbath isn't the target. Christ is.

3. Don't leave out verse 21 and remaining from Isaiah 66:22-23.

Isa 66:21 And I will take of them priests and Levites, saith the Lord.
Isa 66:22 For as the new heaven and the new earth, which I make, remain before me, saith the Lord, so shall your seed and your name continue.
Isa 66:23 And it shall come to pass from month to month, and from sabbath to sabbath, that all flesh shall come to worship before me in Jerusalem, saith the Lord.
Isa 66:24 And they shall go forth, and see the carcasses of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, and their fire shall not be quenched; and they shall be a spectacle to all flesh.

There are yet days left for Christ to rule rebels from humanity. However, there will come a day when that will not be necessary.

Heb 2:8 Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him.

Heb 8:11 And they shall not teach, each one his neighbor and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest.
Heb 8:12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more.”
Heb 8:13 In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.

"Night" is destined for elimination.

Rev 22:3 No longer will there be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him.
Rev 22:4 They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.
Rev 22:5 And night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever.

I agree. In the context of the "end of the work of God" it is rather clear if people will just accept it.

Eph 3:21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
