Jesus Alone!

If you preach Jesus alone.... No one pays attention. If you preach Jesus PLUS something...... You might get some people's attention.
I like that song "just give Me Jesus" And I also like what Paul added to that "And him crucified"

When we discuss all those "PLUS Somethings" In the conversation gets heated and polluted that song comes to mind.

To me I like the big picture. How does that old expression go "Can't see the forest for all the trees"?

I'm just glad Jesus saved me I don't need all the details. I understand the gospel and know how to share it. I understand what Paul teaches in the Romans road to salvation.

I like what @civic Says about soteriology. To me it's the most important thing.

Some people say Jesus is just love and no wrath.

Is that Jesus "alone"?
I would say if you are witnessing and sharing the gospel you'd want to share both. You want to tell whoever you're witnessing to about the love of Jesus toward sinners but also mix in some fire and brimstone. Like the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus.

You need to be ambidextrous. On one hand you have eternal life with no more pain no more sorrow no more tears. It's all good. On the other hand the idea of eternal punishment for the unsaved is a powerful and sobering notion.

I understand that philosophy but scaring someone to make a decision is not what I do these days. Do I talk about sin and the fall ? Yes but the bottom line is God demonstrated His love for us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us. Understanding Gods love is so much greater than fearing His wrath.

I want my kids and grandchildren to obey, please and love me not because they have to because of consequences but because they see how I love them unconditionally and they desire to love in return.

Our men’s morning discipleship group Saturday just had this discussion. We are all parents and grandparents and we agreed on how much of a better motivator love is than wrath .

Just my 2 cents for what it’s worth

That would be preaching "compliance".

Is that how we should see Jesus?

Fear may begin the journey but it does not complete the journey.

He that fears... is not made perfect in love. Perfect love casts out fear...

Fear has torment.

In fact, it is fear that stopped Israel from embracing God on Mount Sinai.

No that's cool I know what you're saying you have to balance it out. I did mention part of the Romans road "Like the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus." You're exactly right love is better as far as motivation goes but you do need to know the alternative.

The Bible is about 2/3 threats and warnings and 1/3 positive promises overall.

You see that exact same ratio in the curses in blessings in the two passages of the Torah.

The reason for this is not that God is unloving, but that God knows we have an evil side of us.

If I say "STOP, if you run out on the road, you will go SPLAT," and my kid says "You are so unloving and wrathful! Promise me candy!"

Was my kid right?!

Think of the children and why they were coming to Jesus and why He told the adults unless you become as one of these you will not enter the kingdom. :)

I don’t believe those stats. In fact I say it’s reversed with Paul and John’s letters which are encouraging others in their faith and to abide in Christ, imitate Christ.
