I call this how you choose to envision your trials, problems, difficulty or giants. We have many type of giant problems that can make us despair....if we don't keep a right perspective concerning them . Israel didn't do this when they were told to go into the Promised Land. Most of the spies who went into the land came back with what the Bible calls an evil report. It was a report of doubt. (Numbers 13:28) They talked about the giants in the land and the fortified cites. They said they were like grasshoppers when comparing themselves to the people of the land. Two of the 12 spies came back with a good report and said while what the others said was true GOD WAS WITH THEM.
The locked into a belief that the Lord was on their side and basically the giants were nothing no matter how big they were. Victory would be theirs! Well the people chose to embrace their own understanding and they refused to trust the Lord with all their heart or we could say they measured the giants AND NOT GOD. So don't measure the giants....measure God! If they measured God nothing would have taken their joy! Nothing would have taken their peace. When the call went out to move forward they would have went! They didn't though. They chose to wander in the wilderness for 40 years!
So what about us? What about our giants? (a metaphor for our big problems) Do we allow ourselves to despair as those people did long ago? So about our giants. Yes well they may be very big. As we look upon them they can make us tremble and be tempted to fear. I believe we can show in scripture that God has not given us a spirit of fear or depression 2 Tim 1:7 or any other spirit which is negative but God has given us a spirit of faith, love and power and of a sound peaceful mind. Phil 4: 7 Let me help you out with how to have a proper perspective about your giant problems.
I find at least this really helps me. OK you see your enemy giants....oh so big they are and strong. So much bigger than you! Now envision this. I take hold of your hand and we blast up into the heavens or sky.....lets say about 30,000 feet the height that airliners fly. I ask you now to look down and ask you what do you see. "Oh" you say...."I see the huge earth expanding out miles, and miles and miles.....so big and so huge!" I then ask you to look at the giants we left down below us. You look and look an look. "I can't see them you say" I give you a telescope.
You look again. "Ok I see them, I see them. But all I see is the top of their heads and they look like pin pricks so very small and almost nothing. OK I now say envision God is a giant of 30,000 feet in height extending right up to where we are. So what are those giants you thought down on the earth were so big and powerful. What are they next to God. The answer you'd give me coming back would be, "Well nothing, nothing, nothing! If God merely raised one foot and dropped it down on those pin pricks....SPLAT....GAME OVER!"
Can we see therefore the type of thinking Caleb and Joshua had the two spies who came back with a good report? The earthly giants to them were NOTHING! They said their defenses were departed from them and how could they not if God was on their side! So what is this positive thinking fluff? That's what Israel considered Caleb and Joshua were engaging in and they wanted their voices silenced.
The people wanted even to stone them in fact they even wanted to stone Moses. Numbers 13. Is it positive thinking fluff when one embraces the exceeding great and precious promises 2 Pt 1:4 and to take hold of them with all tenacity MOVING FORWARD. No you have God's word to establish your victory! That's not fluff and I'd contend that's something that needs to be taken seriously. God Bless!
