Anyone attending either ETS (Evangelical Theological Society) Annual Meeting in November? I am presenting a paper on the Pharisees in Acts using a field theory model.

I have some fine-tuning to do, but it is an interesting approach to evaluating conflict.

Field theory is a methodology that can be used to study Scripture. Most methodologies are rooted in secular works. For example, many commentaries, like Jewett's commentary on Romans, use Lloyd Bitzer's model of the rhetorical situation to establish why Paul wrote the letter.

People often assume that there is some special Christian discipline for exegesis. I fully believe in the inspiration of Scripture and on hearing it from its own context. But that means I need to use every tool available for understanding it rightly. It is my commitment to the Word of God that makes me seek out ways of understanding it.

I don't assume any exegesis. Nor would others' agreements over centuries bear any iota to me of importance.

Only listening to Him as to what He said and what He did not which in that text was corrupted so as to reject it matters to me.
